Do you still have a landline?

Just that really? We do and I'm wondering why we do. Curious if others have got rid of theirs or not.

No. Unplugged the house phone years ago as all we were getting were spam marketing type calls.

AuntieMarys · 06/05/2023 21:35

No. Haven't had one for 10 years

DramaAlpaca · 06/05/2023 21:35

Yes. Unreliable mobile connection and elderly parents in another country, so it's necessary for us.

OzziePopPop · 06/05/2023 21:36

Yes, I prefer it. Old fashioned I guess (I’m only 44!)

DustyLee123 · 06/05/2023 21:36

Yes. I have it incase of an emergency and the kids need to contact us.

MintJulia · 06/05/2023 21:36

I have a landline port on my broadband router, and a phone plugged in, because mobile reception where we live is poor. If I ever need to dial 999, I don't want to faff about trying to find some reception.

It doesn't cost any extra.

ConstanceReid · 06/05/2023 21:36

No - I think it's been at least 10 years.

Thirdsummerofourdiscontent · 06/05/2023 21:37

Yes but no one under the age of 70 calls us on it.

MuffinToSeeHere · 06/05/2023 21:37

No, I've not had one in over 10 years. I genuinely don't think I know anyone with one except my neighbour who is in his 90s. Unless you're in an area with unreliable signal I can't see why you'd bother.

Exactly the same for us

AllOrNothingSituation · 06/05/2023 21:38

Yes but the only one who calls me on it is my dad

HundredMilesAnHour · 06/05/2023 21:41

I still do. A few years ago I was very ill during the night and eventually managed to call 999 from the landline on my bedside table. My mobile was in another room and I would never have been able to reach it. I was in so much pain that it took me forever to even manage the use the landline next to me. Ended up in an ambulance. A&E said I would have been dead within 12 hours otherwise. The memories of that scary night still linger and while they do, the landline stays "just in case". Not logical but....

The landline is my emergency phone. Not just for me but for close family and friends. Only they have the number. If it's the middle of the night and there's a problem, that's the number people call. It's basically my batphone. 😂

chocolateandvanillaicecream · 06/05/2023 21:43

Yes I still have one. It gets used quite a bit too

Floralnomad · 06/05/2023 21:44

Yes , purely so my 91 yr old MIL can call and leave a message for my husband . The phone is in his office and I haven’t answered it in years . Costs us £2 per month so not too bad .

blueshoes · 06/05/2023 21:47

Yes. It is very important that 'Sky Technical Services' is able to get hold of me.

DelurkingAJ · 07/05/2023 09:50

Yes. No mobile signal in much of the house (despite living in a large village in the overpopulated SE).

Doggymummar · 07/05/2023 09:51

Not for 20 years or so

Guineasrule · 07/05/2023 09:52

No, no one had used it in years (apart from spammers). Gave it up and upgraded the fibre (cheaper as well)

mephi · 07/05/2023 09:53

Yes as when I couldn't find my mobile phone and no one else in the family was here to ring it I had no way of finding it! I've now plugged a landline back in!

BloodyInternetWeirdos · 07/05/2023 09:54

We have only just got rid of it. We got an new WiFi deal with no line rental to reduce costs. Not sure why we’ve hung on to it for so long tbh, just laziness in not bothering to sort a new WiFi deal.

80sMum · 07/05/2023 10:02

Yes, we do - sort of. It's no longer a traditional copper wire landline though, it's a phone connected to the WiFi router, running off fibre broadband. We have the same landline phone number that we've had for nearly 40 years but it's not the same in that it will only work if the fibre connection is working and if there isn't a power cut.

When we upgraded to full fibre, we kept the phone because sometimes the mobile signal here can be very poor. It doesn't cost anything to have the landline number and receive calls, but there is a charge per minute for outgoing calls. So we use our mobiles for calls for the vast majority of the time.

UnaOfStormhold · 07/05/2023 10:06

We kept it for emergencies but then they switched our copper line so that our landline went through the router, at which point there didn't seem much point having it as it was pretty much only spam calls.

midgemadgemodge · 07/05/2023 10:08

For those who have no mobile signal in the house - why doesn't your mobile use WiFi ? Mine does calls over the WiFi

DrJump · 07/05/2023 10:10

We do. It's giving DS12 a bit more freedom. I don't mind leaving him at home for longer stretches now we have a home phone. I didn't want to get hom a mobile.
