Do you still have a landline?

Just that really? We do and I'm wondering why we do. Curious if others have got rid of theirs or not.

We gave up our landline over 20 years ago. We didn’t even bother putting in phone jacks when we built our current house.

How are you all getting broadband without a landline

I assumed, correctly I think, that the OP meant landline phone.

ConstanceReid · 07/05/2023 15:04

We have a landline because of broadband. But we don't have a phone connected to it and it went into the bin many years ago.

skyeisthelimit · 07/05/2023 15:05

I still have a Landline although the broadband provider offers a package without one.

My parents can't get a mobile signal in their house so have to use their landline and call me on mine.

I have clients that ring on it.

We live in a rural area and can get power cuts so need to be able to plug in a non electric phone if can't charge mobiles.

I will keep it for as long as I can.

GrumpyPanda · 07/05/2023 15:11

Yes. VOIP line included with internet subscription. It comes with a flat rate for calls to other landlines, so does get used a fair bit. (Not UK.) On the downside, if the internet goes so does the "landline."

Cupcakequeen75 · 07/05/2023 15:13

Yes.
Part of our BB package (runs over fibre) and doesn't cost any extra so it sits there.
Several people still use it as the primary way of contacting us as we don't keep our mobiles with us whereas the LL has multiple extensions.

HydrangeaFairy · 07/05/2023 15:13

Mobile blackspot here although we overcome that to some extent with WiFi calling. I wouldn't get rid of it though as calls through wifi aren't good quality sound.

Theraffarian · 07/05/2023 15:13

Yes , it’s handy when you end up on hold for over an hour ( looking at you HMRC , and various other government departments, also my doctors if you want to book an appointment) . My calls are all included , whereas my mobile is still on pay as you go as I rarely use for phone calls or texts . Mostly I’m connected to WiFi wherever I go for WhatsApp , telegram etc .

Davros · 07/05/2023 21:57

Yes, I think the sound ilis better and I like to look at emails etc on my mobile while I make calls using the landline to deal with shit
