I have booked an Anglo doorstep collection tomorrow thanks to posters on mn.
I have 7 black bags to donate but, will have just over an hour tomorrow to declutter downstairs (lounge, dining rm, kitchen, utility) before they come as my plans today went to pot….

…any advice on how to get best results in this time?

I wish I could turn off the phone but I’m scared my alarm won’t work if I do that 🧐

Thank you - you too x

Dana K White the ADHD decluttering guru says start with the most visible areas first, but I think if you have the opportunity for a giant drop off, then starting with the deepest darkest cupboards is usually most lucrative as 90% of whatever is in there will be total rubbish or obsolete or saved for later and later came and went without the thing.

At least that is what I found when I recently did a car boot.

Is it at all an option to start now and do as much as you have the stamina to do, then catch up on sleep tomorrow? That would probably be the most lucrative for me rather than trying to get stuff done in an hour.

Bedroom - clothing 10 minutes.
Understairs cupboard - mainly clothing and shoes 30 minutes.
Kitchen - All the stuff at the top of the cupboards and fridge 5 minutes.
Living room - books and stuff in storage baskets 15 minutes.

Great thread, OP. Feeling inspired.

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 17/04/2023 22:00

This thread is so stressful! I have had recurring stress dreams about having to pack/sort out in a hurry since I was a teenager (also ADHD). Good luck!

bluebeardswife7 · 17/04/2023 22:07

I would call me. I would be round your house in a heartbeat with a selection of bin bags and cardboard boxes. Have you got a friend like me??

bluebeardswife7 · 17/04/2023 22:07

Are you in Norwich <twitch>

WinchSparkle80 · 18/04/2023 10:31

@bluebeardswife7 sadly not- otherwise I would call you in!
So, I managed another bag, whizzing over the kitchen and lounge this morning. Even managed airing cupboard!
I very much recommend Anglo Doorstep Collections.
Polite and keep you notified and the key part there is a deadline so I had to get it done. Which I need for pretty much everything!
Thank you for all the ideas and support 😍

That’s great advice NeverDropYourMooncup which I will try. Fresh eyes like that are very helpful.

I've had efficient friends try. I can reduce them to tears.

The ADHD is strong in me.

DidyouNO · 18/04/2023 15:09

Tupperware cupboard and the two kids rooms are the only ones in need of a declutter. I'd need a week though!

Hahaha I read the title and laughed , I would take the bin bags into one room open my wardrobe , take out piles of clothes to look thru, then I would notice a book sticking out from under My bed , pull out the draws of books get one out to put in the black bag , which is now lost under the clothes from the wardrobe, so off I go to find the black bags from under the sink, along the way , I've opened the kitchen drawer to have a sort out in there , then I've heard the postman at the door, I've found a few bits to add to the bin bag on the way to the door, oh my Porchway has shoes , so I've took out the shoes , but forgot the bin bag again so off I go again for the bin bag.

Oooo there's a box that needs sorting so I find a few bits in there , now I'm halfway in and have 3 bin bags filled with 3 things each and piles of stuff on the floor in every other room I've been in !!

After an hour I will sit and take every thing out of the bag coz I can't decide if I want to keep them or not 🤣🤣

ADHD brain is soooo real !

Omg, are you me?!

loulouljh · 18/04/2023 15:22

LOVE Anglo...use them regularly..

blueminnow · 18/04/2023 20:04

Thank you for this OP. I didn't know such as service existed. I have just booked a slot! I already have some things bagged up but have been struggling to organise actually taking them to the charity shop, clothes bank etc for some considerable time, so can just put those ones out on the day as they're already ready. I'm going to see what else I can find and bag up to send on it's way.

CremeEggThief · 18/04/2023 20:14

Brilliant, OP!👏😍

Mariecat1970 · 23/04/2023 11:30

Thanks for this thread, I’ve just booked a slot too! Which means I have 2 weeks to declutter as much as possible 😬

WinchSparkle80 · 26/04/2023 12:58

Yay 😀 am glad this has been helpful to others.

Well a good start would be to bag up all the clothes I have sitting in a pile by the door and take them to either a charity shop or a clothes recycling bin. An hour isn't very long, so I think I'd struggle to achieve much more.
