Vacuum that lasts

iloveeverykindofcat · 07/04/2023 08:02

As per username I have two cats. My carpets are short and flat, but every vacuum I buy seems to last 6 months before it practically stops sucking. Admittedly they are cheap. I decide to suck it up and buy an expensive one I want it to last and stay powerful. Any recommendations?

After having many different vacuums over the years I've always reverted back to a Henry or Hetty. No frills, no fuss and no awkward filters that need constant cleaning and they are a reasonable price. They are virtually indestructible!

Mercurial123 · 07/04/2023 08:20

I have the Miele pet vacuum. It's lasted years and is really, really good.

fyn · 07/04/2023 08:21

I also have the Miele pet vacuum, on year three and it’s still excellent. Has lots of filters that need cleaning though!

SabbatWheel · 07/04/2023 08:24

Do you bother to clean the filters? All hoovers need basic maintenance.
I have had 2 Dysons and 3 Sharks over the past 20 years and all have been very good, although with different positives. Currently have one of each (upstairs/downstairs).

Eventysaurus · 07/04/2023 08:26

I recommend the Shark but you do need to learn how to clean filters and clear blockages.

Good stuff needs maintenance!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 07/04/2023 08:26

A cheap but reliable hoover is Henry.

They are pretty indestructible.

HappyHolidai · 07/04/2023 08:30

Henry is great. For pet hair get the red brush attachment on the end that whizzes round and is much better than the black pushy attachment.

I have a Miele cat & dog. It's over 20 years old! Highly recommend! I do occasionally clean it though.

Cupcakequeen75 · 07/04/2023 08:40

We love our Dyson (corded).

We have had two and both have lasted really well while performing brilliantly with our long haired cats, dog etc. Important to use genuine filters (if required) but the long lifetime of the machines makes this a sensible policy.

First one we had was a DC01A (only the second model they made) and lasted 10+ years. So impressed we replaced it with a DC33 Animal which we still use daily and must be approaching a similar age by now.

Ours is 3 years old game changer

TakeMyStrongHand · 07/04/2023 08:42

Screw fix do a hoover. Their brand is titan. It's built for worksites and it's £40. It's the only hoover that hasn't given up in 5 seconds when it's shed season for my dog.

iloveeverykindofcat · 07/04/2023 14:30

Miele or Henry seems to be the favourite. I do clean the filters etc, but even so they seem to lose power. One of my cats has a short slick coat but the other has a more dense, fluffy coat and I think its her fur that kills them.

Ooof, the Miele Cat and Dog is retailing at £329. Maybe I'm being unrealistic about what a decent vacuum costs though.

Wimpeyspread · 07/04/2023 14:34

Definitely Henry - indestructible and good suction

Sugarfree23 · 07/04/2023 14:37

I've a meile cylinder 20 years old and an upright 10 years old.

I didn't like the cylinder on my carpets upstairs so bought the upright and have mainly wooden floors downstairs

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/04/2023 14:43

Our Sebo upright has been unkillable, but you do need bags and filters. It must be nearly 20 years old.

I have one that is 16 years old. They are brilliant .

SinisterKnitter · 07/04/2023 15:20

Another ancient Miele cat and dog here, we've had to replace part of the hose but apart from that it is still going strong.

Save your money honestly. Nothing will outlive a titan beast of all hoovers!

adultdds · 07/04/2023 16:13

Henry is by far the best. Shark is rubbish , dyson is over rated . Not tried the mielle but it's pretty pricey.

alabamathunderpussy · 07/04/2023 16:28

Another vote for henry. Ive had sharks and dysons and its way better than either

PoBaFla · 07/04/2023 16:33

That's why I switched to Dyson, they come with with 5 year guarantee Was fed up with vacuums that died after a year.
1st one lasted over 20 years , now on second one. I have 2 cats

PoBaFla · 07/04/2023 16:34

Sorry that should say 1st one lasted over 10 years

Sprig1 · 07/04/2023 16:37

Definitely Henry.

Madamecastafiore · 07/04/2023 17:00

Sebo Felix, they go on forever, are bagged so the suction is a lot better too.
