Vacuum that lasts

iloveeverykindofcat · 07/04/2023 08:02

As per username I have two cats. My carpets are short and flat, but every vacuum I buy seems to last 6 months before it practically stops sucking. Admittedly they are cheap. I decide to suck it up and buy an expensive one I want it to last and stay powerful. Any recommendations?

I love my Shark. I’ve had it four years now. I have pets, and one is a long haired cat. I’ve only had to unblock it once.

Henry goes for about 150, that's more the price range I was thinking. This is the level of fluff it needs to deal with. The other one doesn't really moult, she's mostly Abyssinian so her coat is short and flat.

@TakeMyStrongHand I'm liking the look of that titan though.

Another vote for miele, mine is about 14 years old and we've had between 3 and 5 dogs all that time (and a cat for years too), it's a great vacuum and the suction has never lessened. I'm going to get a cordless upright one soon for quick runaround because we've got rid of all carpets but two of our dogs are collie types who leave tumbleweed type hair everywhere so I'm vacuuming regularly, I'll be sticking with miele. You get what you pay for, it's an investment and you won't be sorry.

I’ve got a Henry (upstairs) and a shark (downstairs and stairs). For pet hair (ver hairy dog) though I’ve got a rubber brush that I go round and brush together as much as I can and pick it up to stop it blocking up the shark.

TakeMyStrongHand · 08/04/2023 06:57

Honestly, I was going to say try and if you don't like it, you won't have lost much but there is no way you won't like it.

I have an American Akita. That's 60kg of dog that dumps about 300kg (slight exaggeration but there is masses) of fur twice a year and this hoover just eats it up.

Miele Cat and Dog. All vacuum cleaners need maintenance. Don’t forget to change filters clean the brush roll and don’t vacuum up anything wet. It’s a tool for keeping your carpets dust free not a dustbin.

You can vacuum wet stuff with the Titan! I've never done it but it's advertised you can.

I should be asking for commission!

I don't know about commission, but you seem to REALLY love your hoover

TakeMyStrongHand · 08/04/2023 14:11

@Mercurial123 I need to get a life don't I!

It's because I've spent my whole adult life spending crazy money on hoovers that's can cope with dogs. Now I've found "the one" (oh good god) I need to spread the joy! I won't stop til everyone has one 😂

Netcam · 08/04/2023 14:12

Miele vacuums last for decades. I'm on my 2nd in my adult life and I'm 53.

Nachtvlinder · 09/04/2023 22:59

Miele Cat and Dog - mine has been going strong for 10 years and counting. It was about £170 in the sale online somewhere, probably reduced by about £100 or so. Worth looking out for deals on Amazon.

I love my G tech. X

I have the Miele pet vacuum. It's lasted years and is really, really good.

I have a Miele pet vacuum - bought it 6 years ago when we bought this house.
The turbo head has needed stripping down and cleaning out once (DIY'd it by following a YouTube video) as it stopped turning, but otherwise its been brilliant.

RainBow725 · 09/04/2023 23:57

My Henry is older than my DS who is at university. Still going strong.

Moonchild18 · 10/04/2023 00:20

Henry... I'm also a domestic cleaner and use a henry for work

sashh · 10/04/2023 04:10

I have a Miele, not the pet one.

Cynderella · 10/04/2023 10:04

Miele - good, last well, but not so convenient to use (cylinder).

Dyson - never had much luck with them lasting.

Sharks - currently have two, both about three years old. Much easier to use than Mieles, especially for getting under furniture, and no bags to buy.

We have cats, and I have longish hair which always tangled in the Miele brushes, but not a problem for the Shark. The Shark is also good for doing the stairs - couldn't do in one go without moving Miele.

Both Sharks have had the cleaning head replaced, so definitely not as well made as Mieles. That said, they have a five year guarantee, and both were replaced in a couple of days with a quick phone call.

Cynderella · 10/04/2023 10:05

Meant to add that every 6-8 weeks (in school hols), I take them both apart and wash everything in the bath.

A cheap but reliable hoover is Henry.

They are pretty indestructible.

Came here to say exactly this.

Nailsandthesea · 10/04/2023 10:09

Miele cat and dog. First was 15 years old when I moved and a friend offered me £150 for it (didn’t accept) and I brought another when I moved and it’s indestructible two muddy children here and two Labradors and it sucks big time! Carpets are clean clean clean even in moult season

MuseumGardens · 10/04/2023 10:11

Miele cat and dog

Fannyinfinefettle · 10/04/2023 10:14

Another vote for the Miele cat and dog. Had ours for about six years now. Was just in the repair shop as it wasn't picking up, but it's back to 100% now. Was recommended by the repair shop, after my horrendous Dyson died.

wonkylegs · 10/04/2023 10:15

Miele - ours is 15yrs old and still going strong, replaced the hose about 4yrs ago but cheap and easy to get a spare.

Enko · 10/04/2023 10:17

Miele yeps or Nilfisk. But the latter is almost impossible to get in the UK.

I personally think £350 is not that expensive . But try Ebay for one?

Out miele is not even a cat and dog one but does fine with the short hair we have.
