How do you clean your dirty cloths?

This is what I do.
Each dirty cloth gets bunged into a basin in the cupboard. When it’s filled up, I fill the kitchen sink full of Zoflora in boiling water and leave them soaking there overnight.
Then, I wring them out and leave them hanging on the sides of the basin in the airing cupboard.

I did used to put them in the washing machine work the clothes on 90 degrees but I found that the clothes didn’t smell nice at all and I wondered if it was due to the cloths, hence removing them from washing with the clothes.

Is this odd? Really not sure what is the ‘correct’ way as I’m only 23 and only been living away from home for 2 years.

Sounds very OTT. I hate Zoflora, so toxic. I just chuck mine in a normal wash with clothes. We are never ill…

BungleandGeorge · 10/04/2023 21:11

They just go in the machine. They don’t smell, they generally just been used to with
surfaces with cleaning products! If yours are smelly are you leaving them damp?

ThePoshUns · 10/04/2023 21:12

I put mine in with towels at 60 or 90 degrees with detergent no fabric conditioner

I have a dozen or so cloths and probably use about 3 a day for wiping surfaces etc. They rarely gey very gruby or greasy and just get thrown into the normal wash which goes on every day.

I do the same.

i can’t bear soaking things in bleach, I have got friends who soak cloths daily in it and also use bleach for mopping floors.

I’ve occasionally soaked cloths in Milton if we are away self catering and I’ve no access to a washing machine. The tablets are great for caravan holidays using the dc bucket. Then rinse, swish it out in the sink with fairy and dry in the sun.

How you wash them Is fine. I bung them I'm the washing machine with towels at 60.

Jules912 · 10/04/2023 21:38

I wash them in the quick wash in the washing machine once a week ( have enough I'm not using one manky cloth all week) with an occasional 90degree wash thrown in.

UndercoverCop · 10/04/2023 21:41

Once a week I do a load with hand towels, tea towels, bath mat (cotton one not rubber backed) and dishcloths , 60 degrees and put laundry cleanser in with the detergent not fabric softener. Dettol do one but I just use Tesco own brand. Gets it really fresh.

pastypirate · 12/04/2023 13:19

In a bowl with boiling water and bicarbonate of soda. Then wrung tightly and hung on the radiator.

AlisonDonut · 12/04/2023 13:50

It will be the sitting around and them getting smelly that makes the other stuff in the washing machine stink. Just before lockdown I bought a job lot of cleaning cloths and they aren't around long enough to go stinky in the first place, each one is used a max of 2 days and then they go into the next wash, whatever it is.

Nsky62 · 12/04/2023 13:59

On 60c wash or dishwasher

Hazelnuttella · 12/04/2023 14:02

Can I ask what people do with their bathroom cleaning cloths?

Mrsjayy · 12/04/2023 15:05

I just rinse my bathroom cloths out and wash them in the washing machine.

Yellowdays · 12/04/2023 22:22

We drop them into a bucket with vanish, then do a hot wash with them once a week.

Bluelightbaby · 12/04/2023 22:26

I just chuck them in with my normal washing, never had an issues with smell ?

mathanxiety · 12/04/2023 22:27

@StarryBarry
Milton is a mild bleach.

Ishouldbeoutside · 12/04/2023 22:32

I wash all cloths in the main wash with other stuff.

RosesAndHellebores · 12/04/2023 22:36

They go in a plastic bag with the things fir the steam mop. Once a week they go on a 90° wash with an ariel bio tab. Cleans the washing machine at the same time.

CindersAgain · 12/04/2023 17:06

Same.

I am aware! I don’t doubt it’s effective but can’t bear to use it if it can be avoided.

I use a couple of Milton tablets per year when I don’t have access to a washer.
