Help! I've just spilt turps (A-LOT) on my carpet.

Help I've spilt A LOT of turps on my carpet and it's also outside the baby room how can I get rid of the smell fast! I've opened the windows heeeeeelp. Is my carpet ruined? Will baby be okay if he can smell it? :(((

bicarbonate of soda. It’s great to absorb smells. I imagine you’d need a lot though. If it’s a small hallway it’s probably better to lift the carpet and store in a garage overnight (after soaking all the turps up) and then pile a load of bicarb on, leave it on for a few days and then hoover it up and relay the carpet.
