Do you store any food/toiletries for emergencies?

I’ve never really kept any extra food or toilet roll etc on hand for emergencies because I’ve always assumed it’s not really necessary in this country as we don’t tend to get snowed in (down south anyway!) or suffer with the threat of major natural disasters. Even during covid we personally still managed pretty well to get what we needed.

However, I have been reviewing this a bit lately especially as I have 4 kids and the world has felt so much more turbulent in recent years - economically/environmentally/politically. I have some space in my garage that I could store some things. So my question is - if you store extras for emergencies, what do you store? How much? Is it worth it?

When it was just me I always had tons of loo roll and a few cartons of uht milk.

Dp is a prepper so we have a cupboard full of tasteless tinned carrots but I guess we would manage for a few days worst came to it.

I bulk buy anyway so there's always loads of shampoo and stuff like that. I have such an aversion to shopping it's done the least amount of times we can manage with.

I wouldn’t bother really
we live rurally though near a supermarket and to be honest I can’t stand clutter

we usually have plenty in the freezer and plenty of toilet roll (though a local shop had no milk delivery so maybe uht is a good option)

I have a spare for all toiletries in a bathroom cupboard. As soon as something is taken we buy a replacement. Its how my mother did it so it seems natural. However I have lived with three others who use the spare, dont replace or mention it, then moan and whinge when I cant magically find another immediately.

I've always got spare toiletries and toilet rolls and plenty of dried and tinned foods in stock as well as 2 freezers that are pretty full. I'm my parents daughter that's for sure.
I've always been that way. Nothing to do with covid or threat of disaster.

I always have a stock of essentials - loo rolls, washing up liquid, basic toiletries, pain killers, cat food, cat litter etc. Foodstuff too, but only things we use every week - flours, sugars, salt, peppercorns, chocolate, dried fruit, rice, pasta, olive oil, coffee beans ... wine ... we always have some yeast, frozen peas, bread and grated cheese in the freezer.

I'm not prepping for any disasters, but I know that if I was ill for a couple of weeks or there was a short term shortage caused by lorry strikes etc, we'd not worry about empty supermarket shelves. We were glad of our stores in the first lockdown.
