Sorry, I know this isn’t the best subject

As the title says, our toilet bowl looks dingy and a slightly different colour above the water line

Any ideas on what I can try would be very much appreciated

I’d assume it’s dirt clinging to limescale so squirt a limescale remover all around it, leave as long as possible, then give it a good scrub.

Try harpic power plus limescale toilet cleaner.

Bleach too every night in the interim

Bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar. Let soak.or cheap Coke. Let it soak. Failing that a thing that makes the water blue. Will disguise the problem.

Coke

carefulcalculator · 13/12/2022 20:29

We use vinegar.

Spirits of salt. Push most of the water out, pour it in and put the lid down. Leave overnight and flush.
Same stuff but, put cling film over the bowl(quickly as possible, fumes are bad) and then leave overnight. The fumes then work up under the bowl.

Either Harpic Black or Harpic White should do the job. Everyone raves about the black one for limescale (we don't have hard water here so I have never witnessed it's magic first hand), but I've used the Harpic White before and it has baking soda in it to specifically restore whitening.

Lennybenny · 13/12/2022 20:30

Bleach just hides it but doesn't actually get rid of the problem. Harpic black will be good if you use it regularly after the spirits of salt.

Sounds weird but denture tablets work brilliantly when left in the bowl overnight! We have a macerater toilet in our en suite and the bowl gets quite grubby looking as we can't use bleach or the usual cleaners on it. This works a treat!

MammaWeasel · 13/12/2022 20:32

A steradent tablet dropped in the bowl each night will help.

AdoraBell · 13/12/2022 20:39

I use white Harpic, used the black one when the last house had stubborn limescale.

Cheap cola also worked well too.

Squirt of Cif and a forbidden toilet brush.to scrub with.

Thank you so much folks, I will go through these until something works

Never heard of spirit of salt, interesting
