How to rescue a white top put in dark wash by mistake?

I stupidly managed to put a white top in a dark wash and now it's a horrible shade of grey. Is there anything I can do to rescue it before I consign it to the textile recycling?

Bleach?

iwasaterribleteen · 11/12/2022 17:41

If you can't get it nice and white again you could dye it a darker colour altogether!

Can it stand a hot wash? I did that with one of mine, then left it outside for nearly a week for the sun to bleach it (washed it again after!). Doesn’t matter if it’s cold or raining, the UV is magic!

There is a thing called Dr Beckmann - I have saved whites before now but look it up because you will have to weigh up how much the top cost and how much Dr Beckman costs www.amazon.co.uk/Dr-Beckmann-Colour-Run-Remover/dp/B07VV49K2M/ref=asc_df_B07VV49K2M/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=606705584810&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15560641005161811879&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006886&hvtargid=pla-1733060882325&psc=1

Thanks all - I have it soaking in vanish now... will try the hot wash / UV trick next & see how I go!

I haven't used it - but i have heard good things about Ace Whites Bleach, you get it in most supermarkets and it is designed to bring the whiteness back to fabrics

Dr Beckmann colour run remover has saved many a piece of clothing my mother washed with things that run (and a couple by me too)
It's good and even saved a navy blue and white striped top I had which was blue and pink after a wash with my brothers red rugby shirt.

There are sheets like colour catchers that restore whites. You could try washing with a colour catcher or 2 to mop up the dye.

Napisan ( used for nappies) great for sorting out whites. Soak the top overnight then wash in the machine with other whites.

Dr Beckmann works a treat! Saved a beautiful cream Sezane blouse that my DH had turned grey.
