Things you are really pedantic about, even if a dirty beggar the rest of the time?

I am not a particularly tidy person but there are a few things that I have to do

I always iron the DC clothes even if we are just staying in all day. I am not so fussy about my own. I don't iron bed linen either.

I polish glasses and cutlery before putting them away.

My underwear is always handwashed and stored in sets in gauze drawstring bags

I clean the oven every day.

Thank you, stripes. That's exactly my point.

So, you leave a giant skidder in your pan because you're to posh to use a bog brush, and expect your cleaner (who isn't working), to wipe it off for you?

Nice

oranges · 31/01/2008 19:47

My nanny cleans, because she has much higher standards than me. i ended up increasing her hourly rate to factor that in.

bran · 31/01/2008 19:47

DS's clean clothes get folded and put away, mine stay in the laundry basket until I wear them or until I need to use the basket again, then they get randomly tumbled into a drawer.

I can't stand tea towels as I feel they spread bacteria, anything that doesn't get washed in the dishwasher has to be drip-dried on the draining board. Similarly I won't allow cloths in the kitchen, spills etc have to be wiped up with paper towels.

Apart from that, I am completely slovenly and the flat turns into a scary mire whenever my cleaner goes on holiday.

SugarSkyHigh · 31/01/2008 19:47

hatrick that's so true!
when they were toddlers (i have 3 dc, all v. close together).. they would TRASH this place! (they are still quite terrible actually but at least i can sort of get them to tidy up if i go on at them enough).

so nice to come home to a clean and tidy house.

oranges · 31/01/2008 19:48

oh, i'm spotting my own obsessions now - i can't bear a dirty toilet and am mortified if anyone (including the cleaner) sees it dirty.

Desiderata · 31/01/2008 19:49

There was a great quote on a cleaning thread last week:-

'Fortunately, no one cleans to my standards ..'

SugarSkyHigh · 31/01/2008 19:49

i must point out, our loos don't get that dirty. No boys in our house! and my cleaner has her own business - well done her.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 31/01/2008 19:51

Does anyone (especially the dirty beggars) have 'cupboards of shame'?

I have three. One is a large one under the bathroom sink full of dusty almost empty lotions and potions, odd sanitary towels, old raggedy towels and sheets that might be useful one day , unused breast pads, cotton wool etc.

One is In the study and is full of carrier bags and boxes of unsorted paperwork/photos/ work stuff.

The other is in the kitchen, A big pile of unused utensils and gadgets, including a fairly greasy george formby grill and a broken iron.

odd sanitary towels?

Desiderata · 31/01/2008 19:52

Oooooooh yes!

Bimble · 31/01/2008 19:53

I had 2 cleaners (not at the same time) last year and they both turned out to be crap. I'm crap too but when they were here I developed exacting standards. Strange...

hatrick, i am now back teaching myself!
have started issuing chores. it's not too bad, but not exactly going according to plan.......

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 31/01/2008 19:55

Not fundamentally odd sanitary towels.

Just a lot of packets with one or two in there that get overlooked and seem to grow in numbers.

i would love to pay a cleaner but i clean at work, so i slack off at home (a lot)

but will go through like an ocd phase where i will have a major tidy dissinfect everything, wash the cuddly toys etc and then will anally keep up to it everyday for about a week and then it all slidea back again

My cupboard of shame is not openable because the door has jammed. It smells a bit too so probably best to leave it closed. No idea what's in there anymore.

jaynehaterisnolongerworkshy · 31/01/2008 20:00

Loading the dishwasher.

The blardy barstool keeps putting the little plates in amongst the big plates.

DOESN'T HE EVEN START TO GET MY 'SYSTEM'?

The rage is never far from the surface.

kitchen surfaces have to be really clean

ditto highchairs

SugarSkyHigh · 31/01/2008 20:02

i work with 0-5's and my dc are in primary

Bimble · 31/01/2008 20:02

Sanitary towels are great for mopping up spills when you can't be arsed to go downstairs and get the mop!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 31/01/2008 20:05

Bimble I actually do that with nappies.
Especially good for sticky stuff.
