washer/dryer or seperates and which brand is best?

I know this is reminiscent of other threads but just wondered as my washer / dryer has given up for the third time in 5 years (Zanussi) and wondered if may need new one - should i just get seperates next time - are these more reliable and are bosch / miele / aeg the most reliable for those in the know i.e. you.

i had a whirlpool w/d didnt like it,it broke twice and didnt hold many clothes now have a seperate washer and dryer and love them,the dryer is whirlpool and easily holds two loads at once the washing machine is a [excuse the spelling]tricity bendix

If you have room for them, get separates every time.

My mum has a Indesit washer/dryer and it is basically crap.

It takes ages to dry, and even then you have to put the stuff on the screen as the clothes are still a bit damp. Waste of time basically.

I have always had a seperate dryer. I have a bosch one, they are the exact same as the aeg ones if I remember rightly. Works really well.

oh, and having 2 machines means you can simultaneously wash and dry, so you are finished much quicker.

I always had a combined washer dryer, the dryer bit was rubbish took an age to dry anything.

Just before christmas it broke so I bought separate machines and put the dryer in the garage. Should have done it a long time ago. Cannot believe how efficient a vented dryer is. and like kinder says you can do both at the same time.

Get separates unless you have no space for a separate dryer or you only use a drier for the odd shirt and some towels.

We have an AEG washer/dryer, and it's not brilliant, but it's not terrible either. I dry big bed sheets (have nowhere to hang them in the winter), and towels (I don't like the crunchy alternative). It does the job.

Washer dryers are not as good as seperates. The spin on the washer doesn't take enough water out of the clothes before it starts to dry them so it takes ages. I used to put mine back in for an extra spin before putting them back in to dry. I found the clothes were very creased too after drying.

Definitely get separates, I've just switched to Bosch and love it.

If like me you only have space for a washer/drier I would definitely go for a Miele. At the time it was pricey, but it has gone well for quite a few years (and I got it in the good old days when you could buy your white goods at Allders and get 6 months interest free - sigh).

I got a 10-year warranty with it - this has been useful as there was a problem with the drier fixed under it, and the man said they don't have that problem anymore due to redesigning the part that gave problems.

My OH works in the industry and always recommends separates.

Miele would be the best machine depending on your budget.

If your want an Eco Friendly washing machine go for an ISE, this is the one i will be getting once mine gives up the ghost which hopefully wont be that long. These are new machines on the market if you want to know more about them then you can have a look here.

no clue on dryer brands - I have a cheap white knight and it does the job, my mom has the same one and hers is 10+ yrs old

Thanks everyone for that feedback - had the pump replaced for £78 on this occasion but i think next time i will replace with seperates or just a washing machine.
