Advice on buying a washing machine with short hot cycle?

InsectsMatter · 11/10/2022 20:13

I'm trying to find a washing machine with a short (say 30 mins) cycle at about 60 degrees.

There is no way of finding this out outline and showrooms have all closed.
I did a video call with a guy at Curry's who wasn't able to help either.

I want to avoid ending up with a machine with cycles that go on for hours and hours, which is the modern way. No idea how this can be considered eco.

a short wash at 40 degrees would be better than nothing - at least i can tip hot water in the soap drawer I suppose.
The simpler the better. I suspect the more you pay the more impenetrable the instructions and there will be all sorts of pointless abilities such as being able to operate it via wifi when you are abroad and other rubbish.

Any advice?

We have a Hoover.

Loads of choices but the lower cycles are:
1 hour on 60c, or 15/30/44 mins and up to 40c.

The longer cycles use less energy, which is why they are described as eco. They are less intense and have pauses during which the washing soaks.

My short wash cycle is 40 degrees, either 20 or 30 mins. I have the Miele.

I'm not sure i have seen a 60 degree short wash either. Is there a reason you are needing a 60 degree? Short washes are did lighter not so grubby loads, which shouldn't really need such a high temp.

I can shorten my 60 degree washes to around an hour and a half.

I had a Samsung ecobubble for a short while. I really hated that machine as the programmes were really long and the short 15 min wash was crap. But I am comparing it to a Miele so that may not be a fair comparison. I bought it after my first Mieloe died after 20.odd years. I had it 3 weeks and sold it, bought my now Miele. Then once again I could do all my washing (good few loads) in the time in took Samsung f to do one.

Oh I inherited the dreaded samsung eco bubble from the previous owners when I moved and it's broken now hence wanting a replacement. It was awful though, no matter how much I cleaned it, everything came out dirty and cycles went on forever. Nothing `eco' about it!

I think I have the same Hoover machine as Suzi (H Wash 300 Lite with 1400 spin and for the price I've not been disappointed.
Being honest I only use either the 59 minute programme or the 44 minute one and wash at either 30 or 40, but I've just looked at the 60 options and the allergy care programme runs for I hour 3 minutes, the mixed programme for 1 hour 57 minutes the cotton programme for 2 hours 47 minutes and the Eco for 3 hours 17.

@InsectsMatter

Eco is about the amount of energy it uses, not how long it takes.

longer cycles are more energy efficient as they soak the clothes (no energy) instead of agitating it a lot (lots of energy).

i never wash anything at over 40° anymore (always had a bad experience when I have)

my machine takes about 1hr40 @40°. It is a bit of a pain! I won't leave it on if I go out or overnight. It's an LG7kg DD. I love it.

it has a 30minute wash, but I only use that on 30° for small light washes for something like a couple of 'worn once' linen shirts. (It doesn't do 60° on the 30 min quick)

I have an indesit index which has 9, 30 and 60 minute cycles where you can adjust the temperature and spin speed. Quite a big standard machine, it's about 8 years old and still working fine.

user53852098 · 15/10/2022 09:14

My John Lewis jlwm1428 will do a cotton 60 wash in hour and 5 minutes and a 60 synthetics in 52 minutes, you can adjust the length, temperature and spin for a lot of the main programmes

JenniferWooley · 15/10/2022 09:24

My LG 8kg DD does a 40° wash that takes 38mins & a 60° wash that takes an hour.

Most machines take water from the cold tap only these days so a quick wash won't be on long enough to get the water to a high enough temp & run through the full wash cycle for a 60° wash in 30mins or less.

Hi @InsectsMatter I'm not sure if you've found the machine that meets your needs yet. If not, take a look at our article on the best washing machines. Our author wrote after researching the recommendations of Mumsnet users and looking at consumer reviews. Bosch have a Speed Perfect button that might work well? Hope the article is useful and you have a machine you enjoy using again soon.

Theoldwoman · 21/11/2022 06:07

My Miele does at 60 degrees wash in 49 minutes for 6 kg.
Or you can shorten it for a few items (1 kg) and it will take 39 minutes.

Hi

I came across your post after trying to find an answer to your exact same question and was wondering if you ever did find a washing that does a quick wash at 60 degrees? My brain is literally hurting from trying to find one like my Indesit which has chosen to die on me !! Any suggestions/ recommendations would be most appreciated!

Shel81 · 26/12/2023 17:47

Hi. Which model washing machine please ? As I am looking for a short program on 60 degrees!

Shel81 · 26/12/2023 17:48
