Dropped glass jar, it didn't break, should I still use it?

A jar of passata (one of the half size ones, not a massive one) fell from counter height onto the hard tiled floor but miraculously didn't break or crack. From the outside it looks fine. Would you keep it or chuck it?

I can’t understand why you would throw it out? It’s not broken.

ChocChipOwl · 27/09/2022 20:27

So it didn't break or crack? Why would you bin it

Magissa · 27/09/2022 20:27

Did the seal break on the lid? If not it's fine.

tulips27 · 27/09/2022 20:29

I bought it to keep (I had a thread on longlife veggie food for the cupboards not to long ago) so I was wondering if it might go off. And also if the glass could kind of shear on the inside, I suppose?

I'd use it. Idk why you'd think to chuck it if it's intact

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 27/09/2022 20:30

Oh. Don't know. If it's crunchy when you eat it, spit it out ;)

procrastinatingloser · 27/09/2022 20:31

🤨🧐

BertieBotts · 27/09/2022 20:31

If you can't see a break then it's fine, I would definitely use it. I drop stuff all the time!

All right, I think I'll use it but sooner rather than later. I needed to try it out anyway to see if it's a nice one or not before I buy more .

@tulips27 : maybe this is obvious but when it’s time to use it empty it into a bowl and then check the jar has no chips/breaks (v unlikely) rather than just tipping the contents into your pan

procrastinatingloser · 27/09/2022 21:05

It's not going to break from the inside surely Confused

Gubu · 27/09/2022 21:13

Just check the seal didn't pop when you dropped it, if you're planning to store it a while.

AlwaysLatte · 27/09/2022 21:21

I would probably use it straight away, in case the seal popped.

@BeanStew22 You are a GENIUS! Thank you! 😊

This is one of the most insane / inane posts I have ever seen on here. And that’s saying something

tulips27 · 27/09/2022 22:31

At least I don't clean my loo brush in the dishwasher! 😬

@Eddieisadick : not sure why you’d think checking you are not feeding your family glass slivers is so foolish …
