If you can be bothered I'd like washing machine recommendations

Desperately need a new machine and keep falling down rabbit holes of reviews and procrastinating.
I'm looking for energy efficient, a 9kg + capacity and won't buy from Hotpoint or associated brands.
TIA

My Miele was a complete pile of shite
The drive belt sheared within a year , got the belt replaced (eventually)
Then last year ( it was just over the 5year) it leaked - a lot

We enquired about repair ( hadn't taken out the warranty beyond 5 years because these are meant to be indestructable Hmm )
Weighing up price/ what a pain this machine was we got a new one .

I have a 10kg Hotpoint , I could wash an elephant in it
I don't use the autodose , if I do use a liquid , I don't always want the same one

@JuneJubilee - I have the opposite problem, have got an integrated washer at the moment which is on its last legs and really want to go back to freestanding for the bigger drum size, but have nowhere else to put one at the moment.

I didn't think I would be able to fit freestanding in the gap but now you've made me think... not bothered about it being hidden as long as it does the job and is quiet.

Recommendation-wise we have had Bosch in the past and couldn't fault them. Current integrated is an Indesit and it's not great in comparison.

@BertieBotts
Thanks that's really helpful. Pretty obvious now you've mentioned it 😬

Freestanding are usually no wider than integrated, they are just deeper, so it might stick out a bit at the front.

@LittleFriendSusan

typical isn't it! 😂

my kitchen is small (& no utility here <sob> God I miss it!!)

so I want integrated as I think the run of units looks better/bigger without a WM sicking out!!

as Bertie said the width won't be an issue, just the depth.

I'm here on my own so the drum size isn't an issue (& a laundrette in the village, so for washing an actual duvet etc I just pop them down there, so much easier & more room for them to wiggle about!!)

but I'm definitely going to live with the machine sticking out while my LG is willing to carry on! Direct Dive is the biz!!

thanks for the recommendation for integrated. I like Bosch (German versions) so will definitely check those out first. Really dislike indisit so wide berth there!!

we only changed the last Samsung eco bubble etc at 2yo as DD1 moved out amd into a flat with her bf and she wanted the washing machine - we wanted her to go so it was no real sacrifice (light hearted!)

this is the Samsung heat pump tumble dryer - it’s brilliant

I can fully recommend Siemens washing machines, we recently got one after we had an absolute nightmare with an Ebac got suckered in by sales patter and a long warranty
Mines an 8kg wash load but I'm sure I've seen a 9kg model as well, its got a 1400 spin and I genuinely think towels come out of it drier than they did from my previous 1600 spin machine (A zanussi, the Ebac was also a 1600 spin but never spun!) and washing feels a lot cleaner. The only real negative I have is that it has a touch sensitive panel and its quite easy to brush past it and pause it mid wash though it does have a child lock, and the washes do seem very long, but usually it senses how much is inside and cuts it down a little bit.
Oh! should add, its an IQ500 ExtraKlasse and has a 5yr warranty, fingers crossed this one lasts 9-10 years like my Zanussi did!

Both my heat pump dryers work in my garage.

BertieBotts · 13/06/2022 09:15

As I understand it they still work, you just don't get the benefit of the efficiency as they don't work any better than a normal condenser in that environment.

Igmum · 13/06/2022 10:10

Miele. My last Miele lasted 22 years. Equally impressed with my current one. Costs a little more but lasts 3x longer than other washing machines so definitely worth it.

Just buy the cheapest one in Argos that does what you want. Many cannot be economically repaired anymore.

You will get a 12 month guarantee and if you chuck a £1 coin in a jar after every wash, you will soon have enough to buy a new one when it does finally collapse.

and about the worse thing you can do environmentally...

user1498572889 · 14/06/2022 09:13

@BertieBotts
The reason heat pump dryers use less electricity is because they do not have heating elements inside. They use half the amount of electricity than a standard condenser or vented dryer. Makes no difference if its in a garage.

BertieBotts · 14/06/2022 09:32

Ok. I was just saying what I'd found out in my research!

Miisty · 20/05/2023 10:07

Have had a Zanussi and a Samsung in last 8years and really disappointed

HowardKirksConscience · 20/05/2023 10:20

Wouldn’t go with a Zanussi again. The quality has really deteriorated in the last few years.

Laptp · 20/05/2023 10:24

I've got Samsung ecobubble too (2nd one, 1st one lasted 10 years)
