If you can be bothered I'd like washing machine recommendations

Desperately need a new machine and keep falling down rabbit holes of reviews and procrastinating.
I'm looking for energy efficient, a 9kg + capacity and won't buy from Hotpoint or associated brands.
TIA

Hang on @AllTheMonacles, you've found a hot fill machine??? I was so sad when one of my machines died and I couldn't replace it with a hot fill one! Get that one!

Yes! The brand is Ebac, they look really good, great warranty and UK made. I'm tempted.

Thanks all.
My current one is Bosch and it's been great but I've seen reviews say their not as energy efficient as they appear.

My friend has Samsung that she recommends. @Notagain76 does it need WiFi? Our machine will be in the garage and the signal doesn't reach that far.

@alwayscrashinginthesamecar1
Won! Lucky you. Is it one of the dose control Miele models?

Yes its a Twindos and unlike previous posters I love it! The last time I had to buy detergent was over a year ago, and clothes always come out smelling lovely. I won the top of the range machine and matching tumble drier about three years ago and they haven't missed a beat. Miele pricing is mad though, they were over $9000 aud for the pair so I would never have bought them myself, but if they die I would definitely replace with the cheaper models, as my clothes definitely last longer and I can do all kinds of stuff like wash cashmere and proof raincoats (have to say I don't use that setting much! :grin The tumble drier is great too, you can add fragrance capsules which make the whole house smell divine. My friends take the piss and say my house smells like Miele. :grin

I have a 20 year old Miele that is still running perfectly despite the abuse it has received from DC laundry.

It will break my heart if it ever goes puff.

TwuntyFriend · 09/06/2022 12:15

I have a Miele Twindos. It came with a years (yeah right) free detergent. When that ran out I stopped using that bit. You can configure the settings so you don't need to use it, and just use it like a normal machine - I've been doing that for the last 5 years. It's a brilliant machine, and I love it!

Do you just over ride that option when it comes up on the display that you need to run it or do you do something else magic? You might help me to love my machine after all!!

Hardtobelieve123 · 09/06/2022 15:00

Our entry level miele is great. Had it for 7 years. Had to replace something for £250 as limescale broke it but I’ve learnt my lesson and now sometimes use a descaler.

there is a reason miele have such a good name.

Theoldwoman · 09/06/2022 15:07

Miele here too.
Best washing machine I have ever owned.
I have the Power Wash 9kg.

mm40 · 09/06/2022 15:24

We’ve had two Samsung eco bubble whatever they are - the latest is the wifi one which is a bit of a gimmick. The Samsung heat pump tumble dryer is a life changer. Superb bit of kit.

I love my Miele washer. It's a fairly basic model of theirs, but the Miele man who came out to fix my previous machine (combi washer-drier when I lived in a tiny flat) said that would be his recommendation. All singing and dancing models just have more things to go wrong in them he said, and most people will never use all the programmes. The engineering is as good in the basic models as in the more expensive ones. They are still v expensive, but worth it I think. I got mine from John Lewis.

JulesJules · 09/06/2022 15:33

The other advice the Miele man gave me is to run the hottest wash (90 degrees) when the machine is empty once a month, and wash out the soap drawer etc. And he said you never need more than one tablespoon of washing powder, in fact using more is not very good for the machine. I have a tablespoon measure in my box of washing powder. A great big box lasts me between 6-8 months.

I just don't select it when I turn the machine on. With mine, to use the twindos you have to push to Dos button on the display then follow through. But I don't select that and when I turn it on, I just use like a normal machine.

What model is yours? I'll have a look and see if it's the same as mine!

W1 Excellence 9kg twindos

If I don't run the twindos it just keeps coming up on the display that I have to run it and I'm always worried that the guarantee will be void if I don't do it now and again!

MustardCress · 09/06/2022 17:54

We’ve had a Zanussi 10kg for 5 years now and it hasn’t put a foot wrong. It can sometimes tangle sleeves on the synthetic wash but we don’t use it much so doesn’t matter. Good cotton wash. Lots of good shorter washes too. It’s still going strong. I hope the subsequent models are as good. Cost £400 ish

TheVanguardSix · 09/06/2022 17:57

My 10 year old Miele simply never lets me down. It’s a pretty basic one. Nothing fancy. It’s just a good, reliable workhorse and it treats my clothes well.

My 20 year old one was the same, didn't go wrong once until it died . Bung the clothes in, turn the knob and switch on. Loved it. Hate this all singing and all dancing Twindos thing ,can't see it lasting 20 years, too much to go wrong on it. Also, in what circumstances would you need to use your phone to switch in on ? I mean, just why?

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 09/06/2022 18:26

I have a Miele twindos but never use the twindos part. I switch it on and chose whatever programme I want, select a temperature without selecting twindos at all. Each temperature appears twice and I just select the non-twindos one. It also only requests a maintenance wash about every 6-8 weeks.

I wonder why mine insists on a maintenance wash so frequently? I wonder if it's based on numbers of loads that are done.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 10/06/2022 06:44

I reckon I do between 5 and 8 washes a week if that helps?

crossstitchingnana · 10/06/2022 07:08

Samsung Eco- bubble. It's the best machine I have had by far. 9kg drum and linked to my phone so I know when it's done. Also tells me when to clean drum and empty filter. Auto dispenses as well. Clothes are so clean even in cold wash. Quiet too.

Before I had a cheap Zanussi, absolute rubbish. It lasted 9 years and the repair guy said I was lucky to get past 5 years.

I'm rather liking my new Samsung
It's not a top rnd one but it's got lots of features that will be useful...like telling me when to clean the drum and the filter!
Anti wrinkle function, steam clean for heavily soiled items.
It's also got a 15 minute quick wash which I'll use a lot...most of our clothes don't get that soiled.
It even plays me a little tune when it's finished 😌
I got it from AO.com

Totally agree
Half the cost to run ad my old bosch one

I've just remembered that I found this channel really useful when choosing my tumble dryer. It's fairly small as a channel so if you ask a question in comments you will usually get a reply or sometimes a whole video made in response!

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfHIkyLBwpcJs2jwPmp9htg

I think the one feature I would like when I next buy a WM is one that shows the water and energy usage of the cycle when choosing one. Easier than flipping through the book and would help me choose between speed and cost day to day.

BertieBotts · 10/06/2022 07:48

Dunno why that didn't come as a link but if you can't copy and paste, search for Lord's Electrical.

BertieBotts · 10/06/2022 07:58

Heat pump dryers use the residual heat from condensing the water to pump back into the clothes to dry them faster and with less generated heat. That is no use in an unheated outbuilding because the hot air cools too quickly and therefore they will be inefficient and not work well.
