If your cleaner comes on a Monday each week - what do you do about bank holidays?

I have a lovely cleaner - she used to come on a Thursday and then got a number of other jobs so moved me to a Monday (not a day I would have chosen but this works for her in terms of location, so fine). DH and I both work full time and bank holidays are days for us to have the opportunity to have a bit of a lie in/have people over/have some family time. My cleaner would like to come as usual (sometime between 7.30-8.30 am and stay for 4 hours) even when it is a bank holiday, I would prefer that she doesn't come on a bank holiday (I would be happy for her to come on another day of those weeks but she usually prefers not to). When we go on holiday I pay her not to come (because when she did come during our holidays she always left all the lights on/didn't lock up properly) which is fine but I really don't feel that I should need to pay her not to come on bank holidays - not least because she chose to come to us on Mondays and most bank holidays fall on a Monday.
Those of you that have a cleaner on a Monday share what you do re coming/not coming/pay?

Mine don’t come and I don’t pay for that day.

Thanks for all the answers - it looks like I am not unreasonable to ask them not to come and not to pay for them not coming.

My cleaner used to work bank hols, If she cancels I don’t pay, if I cancelled I always paid her.

Inklingpot · 16/05/2022 17:35

Mine doesn’t come and doesn’t get paid.

I make sure my cleaner comes on any day but Monday. I have always asked for a Tuesday and Friday. If I did have a Monday I would ask her to make up hours on a different day.

Mine doesn't work bank holidays so doesn't come, but she tries to fit us in at a different time in the week if she can, even just a quick clean to tide us over. If she can't, we don't pay her, but she works for an agency so she is salary paid. I guess if she was self employed she would still come

Mindymomo · 16/05/2022 17:47

If you want to keep cleaner I would either ask if they could come in another day or cancel and suggest you pay half. It’s not their fault you don’t want her in on a bank holiday, but if she’s self employed she won’t get paid if she doesn’t work.
