Childrens bedroom furniture

My 5yo DT's are growing out of their cotbeds and are going to move from one shared room into their own rooms. What furniture do your 5yo's have in their bedroom - do they need bedside tables at this age? I guess they will be reading themselves soon so may need a bedside light soonish. Each of their rooms have a fitted wardrobe, at the moment the only thing they have in their rooms are beds. Do you have desks/shelves/book cases in your dc's bedroom? or is that for when they are older?
Any ideas for nice furniture? TIA

yes to bedside table and bedside light -- in case they wake up in the night, would also think a book case would be useful.

Look on ebay and freecycle.

ds1 (5y3m) has a bed, a bedside locker with a light on, bookshelves (tidy books type, but made ourselves) above the end of his bed and a desk and chair (this is a full size desk and swivel chair that we had in the loft) with a fitted shelf above. He uses his desk mainly for hama beads atm, but also has colouring books and felts there and sometimes colours or writes. He also has a cd player and some nursery rhyme and story book cd's.

dd1 is almost 3.5 she has

single divan bed with sliding drawers underneath (toys in there)

2 big plastic boxes with lids (her dressing up stuff and small part toys that need to be out of dd2 reach)

her play keyboard/guitar/microphone

triple wardrobe (has storage rack in bottom with wicker baskets in that I keep underwear/pj's etc in)

2 shelves - one with photos on (she picked her fav ones) and the other has books

bedside cabinet - bedside light and her cd player on top and some books/story cds in the drawer

minitaure hat stand thing that her dressing gown and odd bits hang on

dd2 is only just one and has wadrobe/chest of drawers/cotbed and storage boxes with some toys in in her room
