Help! Neutradol Carpet Powder REEKS

Help!!

We have gusts coming on Sat. I decided to borrow a carpet cleaner (vax platinum) and wash the carpet in their room as it is a bit old/grim. Cant afford to replace or sand floorboards atm.

Carpet looked a lot better after cleaning but despite me as much water remov as possie with the machine, radiators, windows open etc, the carpet smelled of wet dog. When it was fully dry it still ponged so I used neutradol carpet powder yesterday evening. Hoovered it up after 30 mins.

It fucking reeks. It smelled like industrial floor cleaner. The dog smell as gone (we don't even have a dog but maybe the previous owner did). Last night it was overpowering. It still reeks this morning. One of the guests is a little girl and i need to get rid of the smell!

(Funnily enough the carpets smell ok now, it's the AIR!)

Aside from vowing never to use this abomination again, I have :

-Left the window open till 1am last night, and opened again just now. (Don't like leaving ground floor windows open all night).

-Hoovered twice yesterday evening.

What else can I do?! Leave window open? Keep hoovering? Use bicarbonate of soda? Could smell have got into other things like the sofa?

Please help, i have a few days and very little money to sort this! I don't want to wash the carpet again, nor can I rip up the carpet as I don't know what it's like underneath.

Thank you 🙏🙏🙏🤞🤞🤞🤞

Thanks I have some ground coffee I'll put that in overnight (when I pull the window to).

Well I'm just going to bed. I've brought the window to put the coffee grounds out. The room absolutely fucking reeks. There is no way a child can sleep in there. If it's still like this tomorrow night I'm seriously going to have to consider changing the carpet up putting a giant rug over it (will that help?)

Its awful stuff isn't it? It reminds me of a urinal cake. I would just air the room. Don't go adding vinegar. Just in case.

EezyOozy · 29/03/2022 23:22

I literally just said to my husband "it smells like one of those urinal blocks" 🤮

Considering washing the carpet again , I've got nothing to lose!

Did you sprinkle any essential oil?

EezyOozy · 29/03/2022 23:54

@BlueFlavour not yet; it has a very very strong "pine" type air freshener smell (but much worse and more chemical), and jm very nervous about adding even more smells.

Wash the carpet again but make sure you spend five times as long sucking up the water since this is what causes the smell. All windows open for a couple of days to help with the drying

Thank you @User76745333

For the benefit of anybody who is unfortunate enough to use neutradol powder in the future:

I went over it again with the VAX carpet cleaner on the rinse setting and went over it on dry/suck mode many many times afterwards. A lot of very frothy water came up so I'm hoping that it's the last of the neutradol powder that was still stinking. Windows and doors wide open and sun is actually shining into the room so fingers crossed that's it sorted now! The rinse definitely helped. Before the rinse I had done two lots of bicarbonate of soda, and hoovered like mad, but it still had a whiff of urinal about it.

Yep, I used it once (never again) and it smells exactly like urinal block
