how active is he?
has he got a good posture?
tbh, any matress that's not lumpy should be fine unless there are other issues

Pretty active, he is long and thin, I think we inherited the mattress so needs a new one, looking for good recommendations of a firm? one which isn't ridiculously pricey! Ta

Physio helped my DS and his bad back. Then he sort of grew out of it. Physio said he had very tight muscles. Pilates/good weight training would also help.

ikea is always a good bet for not too pricey.

Definitely invest in a good mattress. However on the back issue get him to the Dr's. My teen ds had a bad back so took to Dr. Turns put he's developed idiopathic adolescent scoliosis . Got a severe double curvature that can't actually be seen by just looking at his back and posture . Because the bottom part have curved to try to correct the top half so he's still walking upright.
