That's it really. I think it's a bacteria maybe ?
On the floor of the shower there's a build up
Hard water area.
It's bit grim tbh
Had covid so slipped behind with usual super cleanliness.
Any tips welcomed

Clean it 🤷🏻‍♀️

PinkButtercups · 01/03/2022 23:10

Could be from soap scum and just hard water tbh.

Use a bit of viakal on it. If that doesn't work leave bleach on it then scrub, should come off.

MerryPoppings · 01/03/2022 23:11

Limescale. Use a limescale remover.

RobertsRadio · 01/03/2022 23:15

I had this in my last house and it was also in a very hard water area.
I used to have to scrub it a few times a year with an old toothbrush and bleach. A handheld steam cleaner will also do the trick.

disneylover367 · 01/03/2022 23:15

Do you use any particular colour protecting shampoos? Mine goes like this when I use brunette shampoo.

000YourMum000 · 01/03/2022 23:17

It’s mould. Buy some Astonish Mould and Mildew blaster from QD. Spray it all over the affected tiles. Open the windows and shut the door. Go back in an hour, rinse it all off and give it a good scrub.

000YourMum000 · 01/03/2022 23:18

Oh and use an old toothbrush to get between the tiles.

MrPenguinsPoppers · 01/03/2022 23:19

I find HG Mould spray the best. Ventilate the room, spray directly on it and leave for twenty minutes. It vanishes.

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 01/03/2022 23:20

Same here OP, and I’ve ignored anything eco friendly, it’s Cillit Bang and limescale remover and bleach all the way. Still haven’t found a combination of cleaner and brush or whatever that will remove all the orange and all the limescale. I’m hoping that repeated efforts will eventually pay off.

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 01/03/2022 23:22

Busy noting suggestions for mould remover now!

ImInStealthMode · 01/03/2022 23:22

Hard water here too and also have grout with a tendency to turn orange. We semi-regularly bleach every square inch.

Jamboree01 · 01/03/2022 23:23

‘Elbow grease’ in the green bottle. You can get it from various shops like b&m, the range etc. get a grout brush from Amazon. Leave the elbow grease on for at least couple of hours (or overnight) and then scrub it a bit and rinse. Works on floor tiles and grout too. The pink stuff paste is also good. Open a window to ventilate while using elbow grease.

Jamboree01 · 01/03/2022 23:24

Also bleach can make the problem worse as it will discolour the grout eventually

gamerchick · 01/03/2022 23:24

Is it the pink body fat? Products work pretty good. I give it a good clean with whatever, give it a good rinse and spray with hg mould spray overnight.

www.amazon.co.uk/Fuginator%C2%AE-Tile-Grout-Cleaning-Brush/dp/B0099TJARM?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Something shaped liked this is good

gingerhills · 01/03/2022 23:26

It's a kind of mould, though I only get it in hard water areas too. Easily killed with an old toothbrush and neat bleach. Just brush it on, wait 20 mins then rinse off.

Thinkingblonde · 02/03/2022 11:37

It not mould, it’s a bacterial build up from soap scum and body fats. I live in a soft water area and we still get it.
Bleaching it only bleaches it, my shower base has a non slip coating on and if I don’t regularly scrub it with a nylon scrubbing brush the base turns pink. I have wall cladding instead of tiles now in our en-suite and shower and it’s a game changer,
Cillit Bang Soapscum and Lime cleaning mousse was the best thing but I think they’ve discontinued that particular one now.
If you’re in a hard water area and it’s embedded into limescale Viakal lime scale spray will work.

Elbow Grease is another good product, it’s a degreaser.
Fairy liquid is pretty good too.

rbe78 · 02/03/2022 11:46

What @Thinkingblonde said - it's a type of bacteria that grows on soap scum.

I find a bleach spray and a good old-fashioned scrub with an old toothbrush (or a grouting brush if you're feeeling fancy) does the job.

ICouldBeAnyone · 02/03/2022 11:54

Twice weekly spray of this will prevent it in future

clean

Thinkingblonde · 02/03/2022 12:13

My knees prevent me from doing much kneeling nowadays so I’ve now swapped the scrubbing brush for long handled loo brush to do the job.

DottyHarmer · 02/03/2022 12:17

I have this in the shower between the doors at the base - really tricky to clean. Any tips? I have one of those narrow brushes and a toothbrush’s handle is too thick.

HandlebarLadyTash · 02/03/2022 12:45

If you ever get the shower re done I can totally recommend the waterproof shower board. Less places for the orange to build up.

Thinkingblonde · 02/03/2022 15:58

For the tight spaces I have a set of really narrow bottles brushes, they are various thicknesses. Got them from Amazon.

KittenKong · 02/03/2022 16:02

Waitrose do a good own-brand grout mound remover.
