Mould not mound

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 02/03/2022 16:03

I call it "People Grease" ...we're very soft water and it's way worse when everyone is using gel instead of soap.

So imperial leather soap and Astonish mould spray to sqoosh about the grouting. Shower curtain gets a spritz too and into the washing machine every so often.

mamaoffourdc · 02/03/2022 16:04

It's body fat and soap scum

2bazookas · 02/03/2022 16:22

Get some of the special grout mould cleaner sold by Lakeland; instant magic result.

Zillamop · 03/03/2022 08:33

Body fat??

gamerchick · 03/03/2022 09:03

@Zillamop

Body fat??
Yep, it's a thing.

Method glass cleaner mixed with vinegar, or so my cleaner tells me. Grin

EvilPea · 03/03/2022 09:36

Limescale. I just use a toothbrush (cleaning one!) and white vinegar, either in an egg cup, dip and scrub or spray and scrub.
Only needs it once every 6 months or so

EvilPea · 03/03/2022 09:36

@DottyHarmer

I have this in the shower between the doors at the base - really tricky to clean. Any tips? I have one of those narrow brushes and a toothbrush’s handle is too thick.
Cotton bud?
Thinkingblonde · 03/03/2022 10:26

The body fat is dead skin cells and oils from your body when showering.

Cedarfire · 05/03/2022 08:36

It’s limescale, we have had this problem for years and I’ve only just got to the bottom of it. Use a limescale remover not a mould remover. The bleach in mould remover will bleach it white but it’ll just come back again.
I used Viakal and a tooth brush and it’s worked a treat, our grout is white again.
I think there’s also an issue with hair conditioner which contains silicone (most of them do). The silicone forms a layer over the limescale, and needs a lot of cleaning to get rid of it.

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/03/2022 08:38

Make a paste of bicarb and lemon juice. Spread it on the grout, leave for 10 minutes then scrub off with a stiff brush.

MoiraNotRuby · 05/03/2022 08:40

Am I the only one that would just spray any multi purpose cleaning spray, leave for ten minutes, wipe off with a cloth and rinse?

Bleach makes me sneeze so I rarely use it, most things that are dirty don't need bleaching.

abigailthespiderinthehat · 05/03/2022 09:00

Do you use anti dandruff shampoo? That causes orange stains.

lovingtheheat · 05/03/2022 09:43

Viakal.

LaQuern · 05/03/2022 09:44

HG mould remover. Best in class.

Sweetandsaltycaroline · 05/03/2022 09:46

We have the same (hardwater area too)
I used a mixture of bleach and bicarbonate of soda applied with an old toothbrush

ProfessionalChancer · 05/03/2022 10:06

@mamaoffourdc

It's body fat and soap scum
? If I can shower off body fat I’m going to spend all day in there…
gamerchick · 05/03/2022 10:08

If only Grin

SirChenjins · 05/03/2022 10:09

HG Mould Remover (spray not foam). I’ve tried them all and this is the best one by far. It gets rid of everything.

plus3 · 05/03/2022 10:20

It is a bacteria called Serriata - thrives in damp condition. Dry the shower tiles (squeegee & air) & a weekly clean should keep it away

Carpediem15 · 05/03/2022 10:26

This is what it is - I have it in my bathroom so looked it up.

@Jamboree01

‘Elbow grease’ in the green bottle. You can get it from various shops like b&m, the range etc. get a grout brush from Amazon. Leave the elbow grease on for at least couple of hours (or overnight) and then scrub it a bit and rinse. Works on floor tiles and grout too. The pink stuff paste is also good. Open a window to ventilate while using elbow grease.
@Jamboree01 We used to use the HG stuff until we discovered this! It is absolutely amazing but I agree about the ventalation... Grin

HG mould remover. Best in class.
@LaQuern Have you tried the Elbow Grease one? It's a third of the price and works just as well :)
canyoubelievethat · 21/03/2022 19:35

Viakal and an old toothbrush.
