If you wanted to buy truly gorgeous curtains, where would you look?

I guess I'm after inspiration really so money no object at this stage. The kind which you walk past and go "ooooh, wow, luuuuurverly curtains".

We have an original front door with stained glass panels on each side, complete with original draughts. It needs covering up with something warm and heavy but also needs to make me smile inside each time I walk past.

I know I'll end up in Ikea (grrr) but would rather not...

Help?

Grr, I have just been sorting out curtains
TBH I found it a mare
John Lewis is the obvious choice
Or one of those interior designers that has a shop
Or Designers' Guild
But we ended up getting leafy ones from Ikea as we have a budget of nil.

Laura Ashley - I bought some last year and they look beautiful

I would go to the lovely curtain shop in our village - they have loads of books of material and will make them up for you.

Oh meant to add that we got our bedroom curtains from M&S in the January sales - they were 40% off.

I'd go to the local interior design shop and look through all their sample books and get them to make them up.

Gulp. Yes, must pull my finger out and visit little local interiors shop. Probably the way to go, just fear expensive. MUST get my sewing machine fixed.

Have you got a Curtain Exchange near you?

I went into one once and found it full of the most amazing piles of long triple interlined swaggy silky brocady curtains that looked like they were all just out of stately homes.

Worth a look?
