How often is your draining board clear of everything?

Just that really.
I do most dishes in the dishwasher, but there are still a few things that get rinsed or hand washed, and they used to hang around on the draining board forever. Recently I started clearing them as soon as I noticed they were dry, at the latest whenever I clear the dishwasher I also clear the draining board.
I can't believe how much tidier it makes the kitchen look!

Usually , I have a dishwasher do rarely wash up by hand

MMMarmite · 16/11/2021 09:02

Once a day. I clear it in the morning, as it's had the whole night to dry.

I don't leave pots to air dry, I always dry them and put them away. An empty sink and drainer is one job I have to do. I don't know why but a pile of dishes on the drainer drives me potty Grin
Kitchen floor? I'm happy to leave that for someone else.

Once or twice a week when I scrub the sink

UnaOfStormhold · 16/11/2021 09:06

I generally put one lot of pots away just before I start washing the next lot so there's something on the drainer most of the week. We clear it when the cleaner comes though.

Drying up and clearing the draining board is one of my rules, so all the time.

soughsigh · 16/11/2021 09:47

Pretty much never 🙈. I generally end up clearing it when I empty the dishwasher, then the plastic bits get put on it to dry.

Maybe when I don't have 2 children under 4 it can get cleared in the evening.

Ours used to always be piled up but these days we make an effort to clear it. There are just a few bit & bobs that I don’t know where to put eg parts of water bottles etc.

lunar1 · 16/11/2021 10:48

I got rid of mine when I got a new kitchen to stop me leaving things there forever.

Edjut · 16/11/2021 16:02

Not very often, DH's flask and cycling bottle are often on there but they take ages to dry

Cocopopsss · 16/11/2021 21:31

Wow, I’m impressed most people clear it away regularly! Mine is hardly ever clear, I prefer to air dry but then I forget about putting them away! Maybe I’m so used to the dishes being part of the kitchen scenery that it doesn’t register to put them away!

Cocopopsss · 16/11/2021 21:32

Also can I get recommendations for tea towels that actually dry?

MissCreeAnt · 16/11/2021 21:35

Not very often. Drying up is even less essential than ironing.

Every morning we hand wash breakfast things and I'm happy to let 4 bowls/plates and 4 cups/glasses sit there and air dry. The main thing is everyone's trained to clear the drainer before washing up, so we don't build up precarious teetering piles.

Aquamarine1029 · 16/11/2021 21:37

I never have any clutter around my sink. Drives me mad.

BirdyBirdyTweetTweet · 16/11/2021 21:49

Never ever

ZenNudist · 16/11/2021 22:02

I losd dishwasher after tea, hand-wash pans etc, they go on drainer and then I clear them up either later that night or always ensure the drainer is clear before I start WFH. I will pug breakfast buts away mid morning.

I don't dry and put all away straight after washing up unless there are too many pans.

DH leaves the draining board. He doesn't seem to notice it but I like stuff cleared away.

Same with washing out to dry. I out it away as soon as it dried and ge leaves it indefinitely.
