Anyone have a particularly spidery house?

What do you do to keep spider levels down?

I am finding huge house spiders constantly in our annexe. I went in there yesterday evening and there were four. I have a feeling they're just walking in between the door and door frame. It's got wooden doors and there is a small gap of about 5 mm. I can't afford new doors. Can you recommend anything that is effective in deterring them? I evict several every day.

I have tried something that you plug in that emits high frequency sounds that people can't hear but spiders can, and it does seem to work but I had to switch it off as it emits a loud clicking sound that's extremely irritating and not really possible to put up with. Once you switch it off the spiders are back in. So if you have any recommendations as to other things I could try I would be very grateful.

@cloudtree

My house is spidery but I use peppermint oil around the door and window frames. This year we are having building work done so no peppermint oil. They’re everywhere. This week I’ve found one in my hair and I woke up in the night with one on my eye!

I need my peppermint oil back!

Holy shit!

@LizBennet I don't mind the spindly ones as they don't travel far nor do they take you by surprise.
I didn't know they were like mini guard dogs for the big spiders

Ooh I didn't know the spindly ones ( which I don't mind too much because they tend to be high up and stay in the same place for weeks) ate the massive scary house ones which have me and DD running screaming from the room! Brilliant! I also have loads of false widow spiders hanging about my oak beams in out extension. They love the cracks in the wood and all the insects that get trapped in the windows. I don't mind them because they stay put and eat flies. If only big scuttley ones that zoom across the floor and turn up in the shower would bugger off...

We want to move house but one thing putting me off is that we very rarely see a hour spider here and I'm terrified of them. I'd be devastated if we moved somewhere that got loads.

Mind you perhaps that's a selling point for this place... anyone want to buy a house spider-free house?
