the couch for about 12 years

I made a wooden spatula in woodwork class at school, that we still use in the kitchen. So it's over 35 years old. Beat that!

CiaoForNiao · 03/10/2021 23:53

Probably the stick blender which was a present for DS1s first Christmas, so had it almost 17 years.

I've got things that are older but I haven't had them from new.

Titsywoo · 03/10/2021 23:54

I've got some of my parents dinner plates from the 1980s which I love as they have deep sides that most plates nowadays don't so are good for meals with gravy or a lot of sauce.

lannistunut · 03/10/2021 23:56

I've a chest of drawers that I've had for about 25 years, which was my grandparents from many decades ago.

PiesNotGuys · 04/10/2021 00:00

Not sure what counts as a household item.

If cutlery counts our set dates from 1927
If furniture counts I can’t give you an exact year but we have a sideboard that’s from the 1800-1810s
I’ve got a mirror that’s at least 1860s

Sherrystrull · 04/10/2021 00:03

I have a cheese slice and a potato peeler that belonged to my grandparents. They still work brilliantly but must be over 50 years old. My last grandparent died 20 years ago.

SarahJinx · 04/10/2021 00:04

A set of Blue Le Creuset pans that we got as a gift for our first house, 23 years ago, still pristine! My mum has a set that are 50 years old.

hellsbells99 · 04/10/2021 00:05

My electric knife - it was a wedding present 26 years ago and it still works great!

Longdistance · 04/10/2021 00:07

A small plastic fish slice, spoon and fork thing from IKEA. Bought it about 20 years ago for a pound if that. Still have them in my utensil drawer and use them.

bubblepond · 04/10/2021 00:09

My grandad's rake from the 70s

MintJulia · 04/10/2021 00:15

Something I bought, probably the spare single bed which is from 1988,

From someone else, the dinner service was my grandma's wedding present so 1919.

wtfisthatspiderdoing · 04/10/2021 00:17

A tea pot that my grandad gave me that he has had forever! I've no idea what date it's from I just think it's beautiful. It's very plain cream ceramic on a stand and has a stainless steel tea cozy that slots over it. I always loved it and one day he said I can have it as he's got a new teapot... I'll always treasure this teapot!

DustyMaiden · 04/10/2021 00:20

Pyrex dishes given by best friend as an engagement present. 1979

user1000000000009 · 04/10/2021 00:26

My le creuset pots. My gran bought them in the late 80s and gave them to me when I moved into my first house. I've had them nearly 20 years.

ParkheadParadise · 04/10/2021 00:31

A soup pot I borrowed from my mum and never returned along with a bread knife.

felulageller · 04/10/2021 00:44

Seriously!?

Is nothing in your house older than 12 years?

I've got all sorts from the 70s.

I imagine there's some older from grandparents but would need to ask my DPs.

I have furniture that was my DGGF's from at least before the war.

I've got Victorian and Georgian coins if you count those too.

HarrietSchulenberg · 04/10/2021 00:47

Lots. A 19yo sofa. Prestige kitchen utensils which were my grandma's but I've had for 25 years. Ditto Moulinex food processor but different grandma. My wardrobes and dressing tables which were a wedding present to my parents in 1962 but I've had since we moved in here 19 years ago. Chest of drawers and a bookcase which were my first furniture purchases 26 years ago and moved from Shropshire to London and back with me. But Blue Ted and his furry friends have been with me for the entire 50 years I've been alive so I think they win.

CiaoForNiao · 04/10/2021 00:48

OP didn't ask what the oldest thing you own is though.

The title says "what have you had the longest" which isn't the same thing.

NotMyCat · 04/10/2021 00:55

Probably these soup mugs, I'm not sure when they are from! I use them all the time for my porridge and soup
I also have my nans slow cooker which has an on/off switch and that's it Grin works perfectly, again not sure of age but I found one on eBay as "vintage" Grin

What household items have you had the longest?
CiaoForNiao · 04/10/2021 01:00

@NotMyCat we had those soup bowls growing up. So I'd hazard a guess at 1980s

NotMyCat · 04/10/2021 01:02
@NotMyCat we had those soup bowls growing up. So I'd hazard a guess at 1980s
That would make sense as I'm an 80s baby and remember them from my childhood! I have a full set and some random spares

starrynight21 · 04/10/2021 01:02

My grandmother received a set of large kitchen implements for her wedding in 1938 - Prestige ones. When she died, I got them. I have them in a nice canister on the kitchen bench and use them every day.

mummyh2016 · 04/10/2021 01:07

My mom has a food processor that belonged to my nan, we believe it was from the 70s/80s. The box proudly boasts that it now comes with a fitted plug Grin

Bluebellbike · 04/10/2021 01:11

I have a palette knife and some butter knives which belonged to my grand parents. They must be over 60 years old. Also, my grandfather worked for Acme and made my mother a pair of tweezers there in 1950. She was 18 then. I used to borrow them to pluck my eyebrows as a teenager. Mum died in 2000 and I use them now. Best tweezers I have ever owned. I also have a black enamelled pan with two handles on top which belonged to my late MIL. It must be at least 60 years old. We have always called it the cauldron. I moved house recently. My new house has an induction hob and the cauldron was the only pan I owned which I could use, so I had to buy a set of suitable pans.

Greenhillfaraway · 04/10/2021 01:25

I’ve got older things that I’ve inherited or bought but my toaster was purchased in 1985 and used virtually every day since.
