scale coming out of bath taps in the water

Hi
Just wondered if any of you had any methods for dealing with this problem? We normally use the shower, but whenever we go to use the bath taps to run a bath, the bath fills up with blackish/brown bits - yuk. We end up draining it away.

How on earth do you clean inside taps (they are old fashioned taps) and how far do you go?

thankyou for any advice

the scale is probably in the hot water tank and the pipes - are they old?

I had that in the last place I lived. It was the hot water tank, but I have no idea how to sort it, I just moved out! sorry!

Viakal, pipe cleaners - tis the only thing. Have you ever run the taps (on cold) for an hour or drained the system down to get rid of the crud?

Vannah - you might want to go up to the loft, find your cold water storage tank and check it has a cover on also, just in case the problem is things dropping in that then getting condensed in the hot water boiler then coming out the taps (you don't notice with showers).

I found a dead bat in my cold water tank once, no cover at the time - eeek, how long had I been drinking essence of corpse?

urgh! A dead bat??
It is an old old water tank, Im in a first floor flat...
going to try running taps on cold and viakal - where do you get that from?

By the way, the taps in the sinks (both bathroom and kitchen) run fine...

thankyou all!

Supermarkets. For pipe cleaners a DIY store or plumbers merchant or if all that fails, WHSmiths (you will need to bundle smaller ones to make a big fat one).

If you can't get viakal, get limelite - both are in the cleaning aisle of the supermarket, usually top shelf away from little hands!
