Waitrose delivery fees

lockdownwithwhoresdrawers · 07/09/2021 08:34

Just a heads up that from the 9th September Waitrose are going to be charging for their home delivery slots. Although I'm a lifelong Waitrose fan, and I do understand there are overheads with staffing/vans etc, I am a little put out by this change!

@MrsMackesy

manly veg Was it like the rude parsnips, carrots, potatoes and tomatoes featured on That's Life in days gone by?

Dh has been complaining quality’s dropping for a while so this has pushed us to using Tesco 🤷🏻‍♀️

CattyMcNips · 10/09/2021 10:26

We changed from Ocado to Waitrose and are saving well over £50 every week so I'm happy to pay £3 a delivery, I paid for an Ocado smart pass after all.

CattyMcNips · 10/09/2021 10:28

Also, we opt not to have bags on our delivery, we just Chuck it in big boxes at the door and it's a none-issue.

I think we all want to know how to save well over £50 every week please?
lockdownwithwhoresdrawers · 10/09/2021 17:05

I never pay for bags either. I have a chat whilst loading up my own bags at the door.

I've sorted a last minute order for my
Mum tomorrow. £3 delivery for over £100 of stuff and I think that's fine. Tesco wanted £8 for weekend delivery at one point.

stripedbananas · 10/09/2021 21:00

£3 is nothing considering they reduced their minimum spend to £40.
Everyone else charges for their slots.

RoseAndRose · 11/09/2021 07:10

If they hadn't reduced their minimum spend, would they have needed to impose a charge at all?

Or just have the charge for orders under the old spending level?

MrsMackesy · 11/09/2021 08:53

Or just charge for anyone booking more than one slot a week?

That might help to free up slots for more people at busy times too. I do think it will get less busy anyway, except at peak periods, as some people use Waitrose less or move to a different supermarket completely because of the new £12-£15 per month/£156 annual added cost - and that is without factoring in price rises on products.

Thetrainisinthestation · 11/09/2021 18:09

Waitrose gave me a present on my 100th delivery Halo

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/09/2021 18:15

You can’t just leave us hanging like that, what was it?.

I must be way past that and didn’t get anything.

Thetrainisinthestation · 11/09/2021 18:23

I got a box of chocolates and a £10 voucher

When I calculated how much I must of spent to have had 100 deliveries with them it made me think I should start shopping around 😂

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/09/2021 19:04

Well it’s more than other supermarkets would give you.

Thetrainisinthestation · 12/09/2021 08:27

That’s true. And it felt nice to be recognised as a good customer

I actually had no idea I’d had that many orders with them but makes sense as I always used Ocado until they announced their move to M&S so I jumped ship then

lockdownwithwhoresdrawers · 13/09/2021 07:48

Having said that, my order today is coming with like 13 items missing or subbed! I switched from Ocado to Waitrose during the great M&S fall out too.

Well over 20 this week here, OP - about a quarter of our order - half of which they didn't sub at all and it's been similar for a good few weeks. The missing items were nothing obscure and things which you would think had several easy alternatives. Too many short date items again too. Really not good, especially when they are expecting us to accept the delivery fee, effectively putting up the bill by £12-£15 pm.

MrsPnut · 13/09/2021 10:06

I had 2 subs in my shop on Friday, one was Waitrose own bread instead of warburtons and the other was plain mini naan bread instead of garlic and coriander.

The week before I only had 2 as well - I don't know whether our store is more organised or I just buy less popular items.

Waitrose online shop picker here (just back from a lovely 10pm-8am shift 💤😴) . We only pack shopping in bags if the customer has paid for them. Exception in being raw meat/fish and milk. . Can't speak for every store but availability isnt great ATM. I Was picking some frozen today and I had to offsale alot as we didn't even have appropriate subs for the items that were temporarily unavailable. And subbing is as last resort andd we are monitored on it. . Similarly with chilled items things are either unavailable or coming into store with short dates. However our delivery comes in the early hours and is put on the shelves strait away and when we pick we have to pick from the back so you are getting the longest dated item we have in at that time. We always try to send an item that has at least three days in it and will only send shorterr if that's all we have left of that item in the store. . Also with deliveries in the not too distant future if the customer is happy we are going back to the driver bringing your shopping into your house for you, discussing your subs and helping you unload it from the crates.
lockdownwithwhoresdrawers · 13/09/2021 11:25

Thank you for that insight. Glad that they might actually come in and unpack the crate, it'll feel a bit weird though!

You’re all being fleeced already, Aldi food is so much nicer/better value.

lockdownwithwhoresdrawers · 13/09/2021 11:34

Urgh I don't know about that, I've done the whole circle of supermarkets over the years and I do prefer Waitrose.

Hi @thismeansnothing. You shouldn’t be using bags for milk if they haven’t been paid for.

Exception in being raw meat/fish and milk.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/09/2021 13:25

We’ve done the rounds too and Aldi wasn’t better.

lockdownwithwhoresdrawers · 13/09/2021 13:27

If I get subs which are fresh such as I ordered fresh papaya chunks today and got a mixed fruit salad, they remove them from the bill and let me keep them anyway. Same goes for any fresh drinks such as milkshakes too.
