Is anyone doing this/just started?

We just started this week and oh my goodness, our house is clean! Someone could turn up unexpectedly and I could let them in and not die of shame!

Even toddler DD came downstairs today and said 'Oh, it's clean here!' Blush Grin

Level 2 complete! I'd forgotten it wasn't just the bathrooms, it was our bedroom and the hall as well. Every inch has been scrubbed, dusted, hoovered and mopped as appropriate. My first day on a full dose of Ritalin is going well Grin

I tried some new Method stuff. The mint glass cleaner smells gorgeous and cleans well without streaking; I'll definitely be using that forever. The mint and eucalyptus bathroom cleaner is pleasant smelling, not as refreshing as I expected though. It does seem to clean well and is delightfully easy to rinse, which I always found to be a problem with Cif and Flash bathroom. The passionfruit shower spray smells utterly edible and really has made a difference to the shower door - I've been spraying it daily for a week or so and it's much less streaky. I might take to wiping it down with it instead though, our shower cubicle is really small and it's hard to spray the stuff inside it without getting it all over yourself. One other thing I've noticed with the Method products is that they seem to irritate the dermatitis on my hand much less than other products, which is a huge relief.

Is there a tumble dryer sheet type trick for houseplants, I wonder? I hate dusting them but they really do seem to attract the stuff. They're doing really well with their landscaping fabric and stones, though, the kittens have taken a couple of stones out to play with but haven't disturbed them too much, or peed in them, which is such a pleasant change! Bless DH and his patience doing it, it was well worth his time. I must thank him.

SylvanasWindrunner · 14/09/2021 10:27

Ooh good going! I've put the sheets on to wash and am now making a bacon sandwich Blush

I'd hoped the Method bathroom stuff would smell stronger than it did. The Wild Rhubarb stuff is amazing. Think I'll get the glass cleaner and shower stuff. Our glass cleaner atm makes me cough!

Morning, you are all doing brilliantly!! I have work soon, I have decided that I'm not doing all 3 bedrooms every week, so I'm going to do one bedroom and alternate, so this week was mine and Dh's, next week the girls etc, I don't want to wear myself out too much before work, I still need to hoover downstairs, that's an every day job at the moment due to lot's of dog fur, right, time to bring the hoover down and get that job done!!

Cocopopsss · 14/09/2021 12:22

Hi all
Can I ask with bedding how people are changing? I know Gemma says a weekly change but that generates quite a lot in one go! I’ve 4 beds here. Are people doing alternate beds every week? Or 2 beds on one day, 2 on another day in the same week?
And is that everything, mattress protector, sheet, duvet cover?
Thanks for the guidance!

Indecisivelurcher · 14/09/2021 12:38

We've always been really grubby with beds Blush So I'm aiming to alternate between kids beds x2 and master bed. Was thinking sheets and duvet cover. Wasn't going to do mattress protector, as it's protected by sheet. This will be a big improvement.

SylvanasWindrunner · 14/09/2021 12:41

Alternate weeks mainly unless DD has got god knows what on her cover or sheet. Or peed on something 😩

I don't bother with mattress protectors - maybe a Focus Friday job for bedrooms? 🤔

Oh hello!

Just found this thread.

I do a version of this. I do all the 30 min tasks on the days in question, (so, bedrooms today). I don't time myself and try to do all of it. I then do the 15 min tasks as and when I CBA and do the bathrooms on Fridays instead of Friday focus.

Only issue with doing all the beds is getting the sheets all washed and dried!

DollyPartBaked · 14/09/2021 13:53

We only have 2 beds and a cot so i do our bed and cot weekly and our toddler's bed fortnightly as he doesn't sweat as much - or that's my reasoning!

Our room remains a cess pit but have cleaned the inside of our cupboard (which is not level 2!) but my reasoning is really I should be on the bootcamp still for bedrooms so sort of doing that and then doing level 2 on the kids bedroom.

Wilma55 · 14/09/2021 14:00

What Christmas werk are we on? I expected a big fanfare on app about it!

Wilma55 · 14/09/2021 14:02

Probably not eco friendly (but cheap) I use baby wipes on skirting board and paintwork.

SylvanasWindrunner · 14/09/2021 14:46

As if our gas leak wasn't exciting enough, now we have no hot water. So now we have two guys stomping around the house running taps and poking radiators. Thank god I did the level 1 bathroom stuff this morning!

DD and I are confined to the kitchen while they are going about so I have made use of the time and emptied DD's kitchen tower which has been a hotspot for dumping crap for months.

I think it is week 2 on Christmas stuff? I can't bring myself to check. But I think I might start shopping at the end of the month and hope to be done by mid-end November.

Beds I have five to wash. I wash ours (super king) weekly on Mondays; duvet cover, sheet, pillow cases and pillow protectors. Mattress protector gets washed weekly in the summer but only every other in winter. Then I do two childrens (a double and a single) every Sunday but alternate so one week it’s dc1 and 4, the next dc 2 and 3. I was doing dc4 weekly but he’s just gone into a full size single so has been relegated to alternate weeks.

Sheets/beds: my tip is to use an’ ‘American style’ top sheet ie a flat sheet under your duvet (as if you were using sheets & blankets

Size down: single for a double bed, double for a king bed

Then change those every week or 2, means can leave duvet case longer which is less work

If you use 4 pillows, just wash the top 2 pillow cases your head hits & make bottom pillows top once’s next week - also halves the washing

I find this makes changing beds regularly a lot less work

Indecisivelurcher · 14/09/2021 17:47

Good tips in theory, with us though it's essentially laziness so I'm not sure it's going to help much Blush I think really I need to get on with it and then it'll stop seeming normal to not change bedding for weeks... Its the only job I haven't done today! I'm justifying it by saying we're out of sync as did master bed at weekend... Dusted the bedrooms, this never happens! Plus have cleaned the microwave, washing machine and tumble as extras! Have also done 6hrs work, made soup from scratch, and got kids to swimming lesson on time. Am superwoman, right?! This can't last...

StopThrowingCitrusFruitFFS · 14/09/2021 17:54

I have done windows, dusting and hoovering in the bedrooms. I've taken the bedding off, but haven't replaced it yet. Can do that later. Kids' won't take too long, so I can do it when they have their snack and TV time after bath!

SylvanasWindrunner · 14/09/2021 18:04

I'm supremely lazy too and coverless duvets have helped with the bedding a lot as I just bung the whole lot in the washing machine and dry them and they can just be chucked back on the beds with no messing! I'm a coverless duvet evangelist Grin

OP posts:
StopThrowingCitrusFruitFFS · 14/09/2021 18:08

If I take the covers off I know I have to put them on again! Forces me to do it.

Wilma55 · 14/09/2021 18:30

Will a king size coverless duvet go in a normal washing machine?

SylvanasWindrunner · 14/09/2021 18:37

Ours fits in our 8kg drum with room for the sheet and pillow cases too. It squishes a lot!

Hello! Can I join?! I downloaded the app when it first came out. Went in all guns blazing then fizzled out Blush. What with lockdowns and DS being home all summer (he left school in May) things have not been visitor ready here! But I'm determined to get on top of it and keep it going now DS is at college and things are back to normal.

I was all raring to go yesterday. I shampooed the lounge carpet on Saturday night in readiness! But DS hurt his foot playing football so we had a 4 hour stint at the walk in centre instead. Sigh. So I rolled living room day over to today. I took slightly longer than 30 mins but I've washed all the throws/cushion covers, bought new cushions and a rug and gave our leather sofas a clean so it's all looking lovely and smelling fresh! Level 1's done too. Woo hoo!

I will do the main bedroom tomorrow along with the hallway to catch up. DS does his own room. DP has the spare bedroom as his man cave/second bedroom as he works shifts, so he sorts that out.

I'm also going to swap Friday focus this week. We live in a flat, so although our hallway is very long there are no stairs/landing, we also just had it decorated, so it's nice, fresh and uncluttered. The kitchen on the other hand definitely needs some work. I've got Friday off so I'm planning on boot camping the kitchen to get it in a state where 30 mins on a Thursday is enough to keep on top of things!

SylvanasWindrunner · 14/09/2021 19:02

Welcome @HemanOrSheRa ! (She-Ra for sure)

Top work on the shampooing! This betrays my slovenliness, but what does that involve?! I've only ever cleaned carpets using one of those hire things - how do I go about shampooing a carpet?! I'm such a rubbish adult Blush

OP posts:
HemanOrSheRa · 14/09/2021 19:16

We've got a Vax rapid power plus carpet cleaner SylvanasWindrunner. I bought it ages ago because we fostered three puppies but were complete failures so ended up with 4 dogs! (2 already here, kept two of the pups). We had carpet down in the hallway, which I did shampoo regularly, but we ripped it up when we decorated - I want hard flooring down at some point this century (that's another saga 🙄).

The lounge carpet, on the other hand, was an absolute disgrace! There hasn't been a time over the last 18 months when there isn't someone here getting in the way or walking all over it whilst it's drying. DP took DS out on Saturday night - so I got on with it. It's not so bad once you get it all set up, move furniture and get stuck in.

SylvanasWindrunner · 14/09/2021 19:18

Ooh thanks. I've been looking at those, so maybe I'll take the plunge. We have animals plus we had a poorly cat who had a few accidents before he passed away and even though I've scrubbed and scrubbed, it's still patchy Sad

OP posts:
SylvanasWindrunner · 14/09/2021 19:19

Oh and lucky dogs! That would be us if we fostered. We are down to one dog at the moment but I'm getting the itch ...
