Does anyone own a fan that actually cools a room?

I'm currently getting my youngest off to sleep in the bottom bunk and I feel so sorry for the kids sleeping in here. It's so muggy!
I'd like to buy something to cool the room but I've always been under the impression that a fan just circulates the warm air. Has anyone got a fan that works and can link it for me?!

We can see this thread is a few years old so some of the suggestions may be out of stock, but we’ve recently updated our best tower fan and best pedestal fan pages if you’re looking for something to beat the heat this summer. We hope they help.

@PlasticDinosaur

We have a million pound Dyson bladeless thing that vaguely pushes hot air your way and a £39.99 Screwfix industrial floor fan which is aggressively good. I've never needed to go past setting one. Can't hear the telly over it but I just don't care.

DH bought a Dyson fan the other day. Not the most expensive but it was over £300. Less effective than our existing fans (Honeywell). It's back in the box for return .

We have a little fan that blows air through a sort of water cooled filter. It was really cheap and is only small, but it is surprisingly effective. The evaporating water really cools down the air.

My AEG aircon unit is super. Use it in dehumidifier mode through the winter and aircon in summer. It also has a fan-only mode.

If you're spending hundreds on fans you may as well just buy an aircon unit.

Top tip from an Aussie - wet and wring out a tea towel and lie with it spread over your torso, with a fan blowing on you.

We use a Dyson fan too. Cools the air down nicely and isn't too loud. Neighbours of ours had air con fitted into the ceiling in their upstairs landing for £3000. I was shocked by how much they spent but I guess worth it if you really suffer in the heat.

We have this one, it was the most powerful I could find for that price. It cools a 30c room to around 21. It's not perfect, but I'm bloody glad we have it these days

We have a fan it’s pretty good was about £40 from John Lewis but my friend has a Dyson and it was over £300, I think nearer £400 If I’m being honest but it’s like air con and silent.
I told her she was ridiculous for spending that amount of money as we live in London not Miami but I was the ridiculous one as they are sold out in the UK.😶

You can buy solar control window films off the Internet. Some are tinted and some are clear but they’d stop the heat from getting in there.

Another vote for a Vornado. Brilliant and worth every penny.
