How do you dry washing …

When it’s raining?!

Towels, jeans, underwear etc all get chucked in the dryer but things like T-shirt’s, joggers etc that shrink, how do you keep on top of drying them? Got half a load that was on the line that got soaked and half of the next load waiting to dry.

Obviously radiators arn’t on at this time of the year and too wet to hang out?!

I use the low temp in the dryer. I hate it when you can smell damp washing in houses.

I use a mixture of airers, radiators, chairs, and hangers in door ways/ door handles.

The key is to keep things as spaced out as possible really. I could fit everything on the airers but they would take days to dry.

By utilising other areas and doing washing every day/ every other day I can get stuff dried quickly.

School uniform for example dries much quicker on hangers.

I found out accidentally that my Dry Soon dries teeshirts much much quicker if I fold them over the rack, instead of place on hangers on the rack. I only did it that way as I couldn't be bothered to get the right number of hangers from downstairs on Friday night! 6 teeshirts bone dry in 2 hours rather than the usual 4!

We've got a Sheila Maid in the kitchen which is brilliant, especially for big things like bedding and towels. Anything else goes on the clothes horse. I've never had a tumble dryer and don't see the need.

All my kids t shirts and joggers go in the wash, no shrinkage. Mostly M&S as above

Line if dry, airer if not. I try to put the airer somewhere with a through breeze in the months no heating is on.

My Aga is still on so heavier items like jeans and trousers are put on the rail to dry.

A pulley dryer in utility room also, I put clothes on hangers and they dry incredibly quickly.

Bedding, towels, underwear and socks in tumbler.

Tend to wait for a nice day before doing bedding and towels though so they can be pegged out.

Clothes airer and dehumidifier - one of the best things I have ever bought!

We've a massive airing cupboard that an sorer goes in and there's a clothes rail but recently bought a heated dryer from Lakeland for over spill (DS numerous sports kits) and it's bloody brilliant

Clear out under the stairs, install hanging rails (£5 each from IKEA) attached to the back of the stairs, place a dehumidifier in there and boom! A drying room!

Now I'm baffled my stuff doesn't shrink in the dryer. It's a bigun that runs on gas. My DIL has put a raising dryer in the utility room. She's also got some kind of circulating open air cupboard. Puts things on hangers, they dry out

DEHUMIDIFIER!

Extra spin, lots of winged clothes racks, large dehumidifier.
The dehumidifier does the brunt of the drying and lessens the odds of any mould in your home as air is less damp. Works even better if you can put in a room and close the door.

It draws out more than you realise from the air.
All those with heated airers are just sending that moisture into their homes if they aren't opening windows all the time.

Spin dry then airing cupboard, with three layers of wooden slats. No need for a tumble dryer here.

I've noticed only one other person ( Didnt RTFT - because, well..) said clothes horse and everyone else says airer.

I say clothes horse and I never hear it anywhere. What gives

Is that what they call a clothes horse I did wonder. As a child my brother's and I would cover it with a sheet and play camping. Happy days

Lakeland heated airer here. Previously had a dehumidifier.

1. Pace yourself, only do towels and bed linen when dry out or heating on.

2. Have one of those peggy hangers for smalls.
3. Don't hang directly on a radiator in summer as they're freezing cold and will stay damp for days, get a couple of those racks that hang on radiators.
4. Don't let people be in the habit of wearing things for 10 minutes and throwing them in the laundry!
5. Don't buy too many clothes either, it's an incentive to do the above!

Bought a house November 2019 complete with a Sheila maid in the lounge above a coal fire. Its brilliant for drying all my washing but sadly doesn't fit with my renovation plan so will have to go.

There's always room for one somewhere. I have one in my kitchen above where I iron so it doubles up as a drier and airer. Worth it's weight in gold.

Lakeland heated airer here. Never have an issue with condensation. It has a cover that zips over it as it dries the clothes.

I have one of those spring loaded curtain poles in the utility hanging above the sink, with some plastic coat hangers on it. The spotlight in there gets really warm so if I need stuff dry quickly I leave the light on!

Love my Pod! Everything dries nicely on hangers. Use laundry bags for socks. I would not be without it!

T shirts and joggers would go in the tumble drier here. The only stuff that doesn’t is knitwear and DH’s shirts. They get hung on the clothes airer.
