Need laundry help - waxy residue on bedsheet

Hello wise laundry people
When I wash my cotton bottom sheet, one corner always ends up with this residue on it. It is grey and waxy and never appears on any other laundry. I had tried cleaning my washing machine door and run high temp clean and used a product to clean the machine.
Yesterday I got a new machine......and it still happened.
I've tried liquid detergent instead of powder.....I contacted persil and the washing machine company and they just offer a voucher!
Please help me, what could it be?

Try using vinegar instead of fabric softener. It does a better job anyway.

Watching with interest as one of ours has similar residue. Wash on 50 with either powder tablets or loose powder, no conditioner, makes no difference.

I also think it's earwax, particularly as your DH doesn't use a pillow.

LIZS · 26/06/2021 20:12

It seems to have worked!

yellowtomato · 29/06/2021 12:45

This time was a bit better but it's not always as bad as in the picture:
Does DH have a beard? No
What skin care does he use? None
Please tell me it’s not earwax! Eurgh......yuk what a thought. Doesn't seem to be that type of waxy
Doe you have one bottom sheet that you wash, dry and put back on the same day or is it happening on each of the bottom sheets? I have 2 sheets I rotate
Are you sure there’s no marks before the sheet goes in to the machine? Fairly sure, I'll have a better look
Is it the same corner next time? I'll let you know.

There might be something in the thread count theory but what is waxy. It would be an enormous amount of ear wax.

He doesn't use suncream either, prefers to get sunburnt. Confused

I'll update after next washing and see if it is same place but I'll also do a longer cycle/pre-wash etc.

Thanks Op 😃
I’m baffled and keen to hear the next update.

LIZS · 29/06/2021 18:10

I also rotate between two, and use alternate ways up, but one sheet is more affected than the other.

We get this!! I'm quite confused as I appears on our black fitted sheet, but not the dark coloured bedspread.

I hypothesise its grease/sweat and try to wash bedding more often. I'll give fabric conditioner a swerve and see what happens!

Ok, update. I had a good look before washing at it was a bit waxy in the head area. Only washed sheet, duvet cover and pillows, used a pre wash and wash and....very clean indeed. No residue.

So answer is DH greasy head and pre-wash. Finally! Thanks everyone!!

Ha ha - I honestly love this thread Grin

I've had this happen with mainly my dhs clothing, but also pillowcases. I think I overload the machine and then for some reason one item gets the residue of the dirty water. It's really annoying. I've done machine cleans and it seems to help so it might be as suggested due to the fabric conditioner.
