Question for cleaners - how do you clean/sanitise the cloths you use?

I have recently started doing domestic cleaning - unbelievably knackering, but mostly quite enjoying it!

I think that my regime for keeping the cloths I use to clean is ok, but would appreciate some input.

I use colour coded cloths (mostly microfibre, but not e-cloths), and always use a fresh set for each home (can be up to 5 homes per day, depending on whether I’m working as part of a team. Cloths are NOT used on the toilet.

This is what I am currently doing:

  1. All cloths are washed together on a 60 degree cycle, with a small amount of biological washing powder and 2 capfuls of Persil antibacterial laundry sanitiser.
  2. Straight out of the machine (so still wet), they are microwaved in batches for 2 minutes.
  3. They are hung up to either air dry indoors or on the washing line (I have 4 of the IKEA octopus type hanging dryers).

Am I doing enough/the right thing? What do you do?

My cleaner washes all the cloths on 95c with washing liquid and bleach and then tumble dries hot.

The cloths are only used in my house though.

For my own cloths I wash at 60 with normal washing powder. Then air dry. Don’t think you need that sanitiser stuff. What does it add?!

I’m intrigued about the idea of microwaving. No idea as to the science but I’d prefer that something potentially still “germy” didn’t go in a microwave that I use for food.

I think the microwaving sounds OTT

gamerchick · 17/05/2021 20:37

You don't need to microwave them.

Mine get washed with everything else, at 40 degrees. Seems clean enough to me

All cloths washed at 60 degrees on a 2 and a half hour wash cycle. I use Ariel, no softener. Dry in tumble dryer or washing line.
