Not the DIY versions.

If you get professionally cleaned - how often?

I get them done once a year, after winter. Absolutely love it after done! Wondering if excessive to have done twice a year!

Never.

Bythemillpond · 04/03/2021 06:44

Unless there was a massive spill then never

readingismycardio · 04/03/2021 06:45

Once a year too! Sometimes twice (usually around Easter & around Christmas). I love it!

Jojoanna · 04/03/2021 06:46

Oh never ,, is this a thing ? Should I be getting them cleaned ?

PutTheCakeDOWN · 04/03/2021 06:47

How much do you pay though!?

I had someone out for a quote and they said £120 per room so I escorted them out😂

Would love mine done and the sofa

Insertfunnyname · 04/03/2021 06:51

About once a year or 18m I never remember but the colour of the water that comes out is incredible Sad and we are a shoes off house!

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/03/2021 06:52

We’re taking all ours up, I hate them.

Oblomov21 · 04/03/2021 06:54

Never. Borrow my sil's carpet cleaning machine one a year maybe.

Bluntness100 · 04/03/2021 06:55

I should do it annually but every couple of years I have the whole house done and the sofas. Guy brings in a massive industrial cleaner the size of a fridge, and brings everything up like new. I also get the ovens done at the same time. Same dude.

Chewingle · 04/03/2021 07:48

The sofa clean is feel my lovely!

So I pay £200 - that’s for one dining room, on hall ways, one double bedroom, one sofa and a rug.

He’s here for a good few hours. And it’s hard labour!

Usually every 6 months but less last year with covid. Whole 4 bed house costs about £140 and well worth doing

Bluntness100 · 04/03/2021 07:58

I pay 350 for the carpets and the ovens. Two ovens, four bedrooms, stairs, down stairs is only one massive rug, about 14 foot by 18 foot. And sofa/pouffe.

I also have a carpet cleaning machine that I use every six months or so downstairs, but in reality the domestic ones are fairly ineffective in comparison to thr massive industrial ones. It literally looks like an under counter fridge, same size and shape, with the hoses coming off it.

didireallysaythat · 06/03/2021 22:31

Never. Got quotes to get the house done (4 beds, 2 receptions) before we moved in (all rooms empty) and it was £300-500.

Got a quote last year at £5 per square metre.

Still haven't had them cleaned professionally - just hire one from HSS

Jumpintothefire · 06/03/2021 22:52

Never . Got it done once in old house but Rug Doctor does it just as well . Do them once a month or second month with Rug doctor ( we have dogs ),also mattresses about every 6 months. We only have a hall and stairs carpet and some rugs .

Bluntness100 · 07/03/2021 07:47

Rug doctor does a decent enough job if you keep on top of your carpets, but doesn’t come close to the difference a professional clean does.

This is what our guy brings in, it’s massive, taller than waist height, and every mark is gone. The carpets look like new. I think if your carpets are in good nick and it’s a maintenance job them rug doctor is fine, if they haven’t been cleaned for some time, bring the big guys in, and if you’ve fabric sofas, get them done at the same time.

We only have carpet upstairs and get it cleaned three or four times a year. Not washing carpet is GROSS! It's like brushing but not washing your hair.

I actually agree with that, some people go decades not cleaning their carpet. And then they think they need replacing due to visible dirt and marks. When all they need is a good clean. Honestly they will smell.. Get your carpets cleaned. It’s really minging not to. Even if it’s just hiring a rug doctor or a cleaner from hss, you don’t need to spend more than twenty odd quid to do it.

Not cleaning your carpets is like not cleaning your loo or kitchen. Doesn’t matter what kind of flooring you have, hard or carpeted, it needs cleaning.

lazyakita · 07/03/2021 08:33

We have carpet on our stairs and get it cleaned annually, along with the sofa and two large rugs. It's about £150 for the lot and well worth it!

Chewingle · 07/03/2021 08:40

It’s actually not cleaning sofas that baffle me more!

PogTheDog · 07/03/2021 08:40

I really want mine done but I'm put off by having to move all the furniture Blush DC have large bunk beds in small rooms and the thought of moving them....

Did you have to move ALL of your furniture for them to clean underneath?

FTEngineerM · 07/03/2021 08:43

Agree, especially with children or animals they are rank pretty quickly.

The room always smells fresher when I’ve washed the sofa covers.

I tend not to move the big furniture like beds, but things like chests of drawers etc, tables sofas etc yes. The guy just moves them out the way himself, we don’t do anything, and then he puts them back. It’s no biggie.
Piglet92 · 07/03/2021 09:10

We got a rug doctor to do ours after dd had an accident with a bag of flour 🙄 we've got building work to do and after that we will never ever ever have carpet again.

BurgundyBells · 07/03/2021 09:11

Every couple of years. But I'd never hire so some one in, it's ridiculously expensive and you're mainly paying for the labour.

However, nor would I use a standard domestic carpet cleaner... there's a happy medium. We go to our local HSS or similar and hire an industrial carpet cleaner- basically the same kit the professionals would use anyway. We usually pay £100 ish and have it for a day or two. We do all the carpets, the car and sometimes whiz over to my mums with it and do all of hers too.

Carpets look new and you can also (easily) haggle with independent hire shops for a lower price or an extra day.

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 07/03/2021 09:14

Never but we don't wear shoes inside and the floors that aren't carpeted are immaculate and whole house just needs a regular hoover to keep clean.
