Can I wash a beenie baby in the washing machine?

DS's favuorite toy in the whole world looks rather worse for wear and grubby...so can I just pop it in the wash?

I did it this week. I put it in a little fabric drawstring bag to protect it, though it did come out during the wash. Beanie baby (Tom Kitten, to be more precise) unharmed and dried overnight. DD never knew he'd been away!
