Cold water. You can also add salt to the water

No bother, glad it was a success. Dd used to have big nosebleeds and regularly left trails across the carpets!

Blood is a mix of proteins, which coagulate if you heat them, clotting them into the carpet fibres and setting the stain permanently. It’s why you always rinse blood stained clothes in cold water before washing them. Fat based stains by contrast need hot water and detergent to emulsify them into the water and flush them away.
Next time, murder your victim on the patio or kitchen tiles - it makes cleaning the crime scene so much easier...
