Our current mattress is sooooo uncomfortable. New one in the cards but we’ve no idea where to begin! Or roughly how much we should be spending-don’t want to get ripped off. Recently stayed in a Premier Inn & loved the Hypnos mattress. Does anyone have one? Are they a good long term purchase?

The only thing I’m fairly confident about is that we don’t want memory foam type ones.

Grateful in advance for your advice!

A year later and I'm on this thread still on the mattress hunt ! May I ask which John Ryan mattress you chose?

We have a John Ryan artisan natural. We sent back a Simba beforehand-too swampy. We have now had it 4 years and it’s still a delight getting into bed. Never gets clammy. Beautiful mattress-we got it reduced in their bargain box. It’s very heavy so needs 2 of us to turn it. Best mattress I’ve ever slept on-think there’re about 1.5k now.
We have just bought a mattress for our spare room from an independent bed shop-£450 double-we didn’t have the John Ryan budget for the spare room! 1500 pocket springs and fully turntable with some wool inside for temperature regulation. It’s pretty decent and comfortable-will look at the make later if you like.

We had a John Ryan mattress - also Artisan Naturals but we found after 4/5 years it had really sagged on each side and left a big ridge down the middle. I found it increasingly uncomfortable to sleep in a dip and got bad back pain as wasn't supported.

This is apparently normal with mattresses made from predominately natural fibres because they settle.

We've had to replace it which felt a shame but I spent many nights feeling very uncomfy!

We have a Sealy posturepedic pocket-sprung mattress from Dreams, it cost about £1.3k. It's very deep and heavy. supportive and lovely. We would've bought a Hypnos otherwise, although I'd really love a King Koil mattress. They are amazing, Jurys Inns have them but last time I checked the only stockists were in Republic of Ireland.

I bought my mattress from John Lewis 6 months ago and it is lovely. I spent £5,900 on it though so I’m hoping it is nice Blush

I spend a lot of time in bed as get >20 migraines per month. Had a Herdy mattress but found it very uncomfortable.
Bought 2 euro single Hövåg mattresses from Ikea and they're so comfortable. They fit perfectly into superking sleigh bed I got for bargain off eBay.
