Washer dryer or dryer in the cellar?

I can’t go through another winter with no dryer. I don’t have room for a separate one anywhere in the house. The only option is down in the cellar.

I’m torn between a washer dryer in the kitchen - convenient, but perhaps compromises on performance - or putting a dryer in the cellar, which would involve traipsing up and down to the dusty basement.

Thoughts, wise ones?

@GirlCalledJames. We had exactly the same problem with a washer dryer. That coupled with the fact that it was completely useless meant we replaced it within a year with separate machines.

Would always opt for separate as we had a washer dryer in our old house. It would take twice as long to dry the clothes than to wash them.
Ended up buying a separate dryer as it couldn’t keep up with the mountains of washing we had back then.

You could put it on a waterproof sheet?. Condensing dryers usually tell you in the instructions if you can put it in a cold room or outhouse.

If you buy it in John Lewis they’d know which one was best.
