Yes, I know there are other threads which I have looked at, but they are very varied for and against a dyson, for miele/sebo, for a stick vs corded etc. Do you or don't you like about your vacuum to help me narrow down my choice please.

This thread is a bit old now, so if you have landed here looking for recommendations, we recently updated our best vacuum cleaner buyers guide, featuring the best cordless, cylinder and upright vacuums, tried and tested by Mumsnet.

We hope you find this useful.

Henry. Long wire, works brilliantly, a real workhorse. It was a smiley face.

LOVELYDOVEY05 · 10/08/2020 11:26

My priority is that it has good suction and is easy to move/carry
especially upstairs

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb · 10/08/2020 11:26

Henry
There’s a reason clearers use them.

We have a Sebo, it’s the best we have had amongst a Dyson, Miele, AEG and a Bosch. We have a lot of carpet and it’s very good on carpet.

MiniDoofa · 10/08/2020 11:39

Another vote for Henry. Way better value than Dyson and way better suction. Also I chat yo his smiley face while I’m vacuuming.
I’d had a Dyson for 13 years, had replaced numerous parts and was looking at a new one. But the new ones don’t look as robust and are very very expensive.

Redshoeblueshoe · 10/08/2020 11:43

I hate my Dyson.
If I replace it I will get a Henry.

Elouera · 10/08/2020 13:51

I just looked up a Henry and there are so many types! They also look very heavy at over 8kg! Any specific recommendations? Is the pet one any good for long, human hair?

My current Dyson is literally 20yrs old, but died yesterday. New fuse didnt work, and I suspect the engine just died. It did well though, but seems the newer dysons arent made to the same build quality.

Hetty. She's amazing. Great suction, easy to move about.
Worst Hoover - cordless Dyson cyclone v10. No suction power. Filter always needs washing.Could cry at the £££ wasted on it.

blvdbrokendreams · 10/08/2020 14:00

@elouera we have the Henry pet vacuum and honestly it's amazing. We had a small dog that seemed to shed 5 times his size worth of fur and have never seen the house so fluff free. Plus as other people have said it has a smiley face

RoisinD · 10/08/2020 14:03

Shark every time. Pet vac is amazing. Got rid of Henry.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 10/08/2020 14:06

We have a Henry. My 7yo and 9yo DDs move it around no problem. 8kg is about the size of a newborn baby.

Karmagoat · 10/08/2020 14:12

Another vote for Henry, last for years, have one at home and use for work as I'm a cleaner

FlamingoAndJohn · 10/08/2020 14:14

Shark all day long.

Mysa74 · 10/08/2020 14:20

I bought a second hand Hetty for £30 from FB marketplace to tide me over when my Dyson blew up. She's brilliant! Fits under the stairs, massive long cord so don't have to plug in more than once on each floor, suction is excellent, better than the Dyson. She's staying!

Thecazelets · 10/08/2020 14:26

My newborn babies were nearer 3.5 kg than 8, but I do recommend a Henry! We used to get through a lot of hoovers, but our builder recommended Henry and we've not looked back. Virtually indestructible.

You're right, i mixed up Lbs and kg there. I definitely didn't give birth to an 8kg baby!

Hate my Dyson. No suction unless on max, in which case battery literally lasts five minutes. Heavy. Awkward to use in small spaces.

solidaritea · 10/08/2020 14:49

Is a Henry good for thick carpet?

FedUpWithBriiiiick · 10/08/2020 15:26

Same. I totally regret getting a Dyson. My next vacuum will be a Shark.

I also had a Henry before. Hated him, too heavy and always getting stuck in doorways, smirking at me. Smug wee shitehawk...

LoeliaPonsonby · 10/08/2020 15:30

Blimey. I love our cordless Dyson v10 cyclone thingy. Used several times a day and so much less hassle than dragging out a normal hoover. Never had a problem with suction reducing - it gets used on the middle setting and battery happily lasts a complete run around of 4 bed house.

bloodywhitecat · 10/08/2020 15:39

Hated Henry, cumbersome and fell over at every given opportunity.

mommybear1 · 10/08/2020 15:40

Shark cordless here

kerkyra · 10/08/2020 15:42

Henry,I'm a cleaner so have one at home and one in the car for my jobs

WithASpider · 10/08/2020 15:49

I love my Shark. It's a bit on the heavy side but it more than makes up for that with phenomenal power. I work for a cleaning company and we use Henry hoovers, proper workhorses.

I have a cordless Dyson too. It's shit.
