RAT in my house!!!!!!

I've called Rentokil. But a rat ran across my kitchen floor last night, I slept really badly thinking about it. My dh is profoundly phobic I told him I'd seen a mouse!
We have a garage and a few potential places they could be getting in. I'm totally freaked out and depressed by it.

Could anyone please just reassure me that we can potentially sort it out and it will be ok? I feel so upset about it I'm in tears! I also really need to hide it from dh who is under so much pressure at the moment I can't heap any more on him.
I think I'm in a bit of a state because I slept so badly!

Any reassurance or stories of solutions or comfort would be massively appreciated. I do feel a bit hysterical and on my own about it.

thanks

Don't waste your money on the sonic things especially if you live in a stone house as they do not work. I would get those poison boxes (you can get childproof ones) and dot them around. The only thing is is that it takes them a while to die and then if they've managed to get in your walls or under your floorboards it will smell to high heaven. I wish you all the luck in the world as I used to dread coming home from work to sitting there listening out for them.

My dad had pest control round last Friday (not rats, big old cockroach came in from house next door). The pest control man just laughed at the plug-in sonic device we'd plugged in (recently advertised on TV). He thought it was a hoot. So I suppose they might not work.
I live in London where it's often said you are never more than 10 feet from a rat .

I found a RAT in my bathroom this morning, I’m absolutely mortified, Ive just recovered from being in a coma in hospital, came home to lots of cleaning up ect (cutting grass, painting) I can’t sleep because I’m worried it’s going too get in the bedroom, I really don’t know what to do as I have children and am on benefits some of the prices are way beyond what I can afford, I’m wondering if anyone has any tips to get rid.....I’m tearing my hair out

Get the council in.

Next door neighbors are doing a loft and chimney removal job we have started seeing signs so we are blocking holes with wiry stuff as well as laying sticky traps I know this is horrible to use don’t know what else to do.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/04/2019 07:27

Sticky traps are incredibly cruel, how can you live with yourself using them?.

Mildmanneredmum · 26/04/2019 14:27

I had a rat in me kitchen as well. Got the rat man in, he was very knowledgeable and put my mind at rest, did what he needed to do and I never saw the rat again......

You could buy a lockable bait trap (or two) and bait from a local hardware store to put down near anywhere they might be getting in.
