Tuesday - day 2 - Get dressed to lace up shoes

OP posts:
FunkyGlassSlipper · 25/09/2007 15:28

Hi everyone. Try and stick with the babysteps. Dont run before you can walk or IT WONT WORK....

SuperMonkey · 25/09/2007 15:36

Don't worry - I'm not planning to do more than I'm told! (OK, I did one load of washing but that was just so that DSD would have clean school uniform)

FunkyGlassSlipper · 25/09/2007 15:47

The easiest way to fail at flylady is to 'not get it' and get carried away with cleaning the whole house top to bottom once you have seen how wonderful a shiny sink can be.

By doing the housework in small chunks it becomes more manageable and therefore less of a chore.

P.s Hi Flame XXXXX I just re-graduated on the other babysteps....missed you though

Cappuccino · 25/09/2007 15:50

agree with funky

I abandoned the first fly thread because they were all over the house like they had nothing better to do

eg "Today I have cleaned the kids rooms, cleaned the bath, defrosted the fridge, vacuumed upstairs and down, replaced the guttering, done 14 loads of washing and ironed the dog"

it just wasn't right

unknownrebelbang · 25/09/2007 15:59

I am not putting shoes on until I have to go out of the house, lol, and some mornings I get up and go on the exercise bike first (ok, two days this week, lol) but you get the drift.

Flame, I WILL shine my sink tonight before I go to bed, lol.

Flamesparrow · 25/09/2007 16:05

Good woman.

I only do bits here and there in between the babysteps. I think I am allowed though because I am just revising rather than learning from scratch

flowerybeanbag · 25/09/2007 16:16

I'm allowed to do stuff like a load of washing and empty the dishwasher though aren't I? Otherwise we'd all have no clothes or plates...

Promise not to get carried away though, you are so right, so tempting to go and do the whole house then abandon it.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 25/09/2007 16:20

yes flowerybeanbag. Can't have you wandering around in dirty nicnacs and eating off paper plates . Just dont try and tackle the whole house just yet!

flowerybeanbag · 25/09/2007 16:21

GrinGrin

Flamesparrow · 25/09/2007 16:27

lol, yup - just do little bits as and when you feel the need/spot them. It is the big blitzes that make you burn out.

Was doing DD's room with her earlier. Got quite a bit done but suddenly decided I wasn't enjoying it anymore so we stopped.

Sooooooooooo much better than my normal "We're getting your room sorted" mission where be end up killing each other.

pooter · 25/09/2007 16:28

My husband looked at me like i had lost my mind when i asked him to admire my sink. Ooh - theres a thought - flylady has a scheme for housework, another for getting fit - but does she have one for what i really need - husbandclutter??

And yes - veggie lasagne.

daisyandbabybootoo · 25/09/2007 16:41

my sink is shiny

well as shiny as a 20 year old stainless steel sink can be

but my plugs lift out completely and i forgot about them . i now don't want to clean them as it will muss up my shiny sink [pathetic emoticon]

can't wait for the bathroom then

Flamesparrow · 25/09/2007 16:43

(whb??)

daisyandbabybootoo · 25/09/2007 16:48

wash hand basin

....sorry building industry abbreviation

mylastrolo · 25/09/2007 17:06

right so know where you are coming from not wanting to mess up sink and yes i once burnt out ok!!! compared to others had a bit of a move on i suppose. so off to removed bleached clothes and shine sink.

make dinner
ironing lunches
paperwork usual stuff.

Flamesparrow · 25/09/2007 17:15

pmsl @ whb - sinks a sink in my house

trixymalixy · 25/09/2007 17:27

Aaagh!!

This flying isn't for me.

Failed at the first hurdle by having a non-shinable sink and failed at the second hurdle by not having lace up shoes!!!!

I did put shoes on this morning as have been out swimming with DS and lunch after, they are pumps though.

haven't shined my sink yet as it hasn't been used since I last shined it. Or is that missing the point should I be shining it even if it doesn't look like it needs it?

duckduckgoose · 25/09/2007 17:28

I have now shined my sink for the second day in a row. Today I even cleaned the draining board - which meant clearing all the clutter as well. v proud of myself for that one.

Got dressed to shoes to pick up dd from nursery this morning, but kicked them off once in the house. I cannot walk around in shoes all day.

Are all of you really keeping your shoes on??

In the spirit of babysteps and taking things slowly, I have done virtually nothing else around the house all day.

daisyandbabybootoo · 25/09/2007 17:32

flame...obviously i'm middle class and a bit posh

i feel happy that my judgmental MIL can visit me now, and although she will be looking at my house thinking what a tip....she'll also be thinking, wow lovely shiny sink though

does it matter that you can't see any of the other surfaces in my kitchen?

Simply · 25/09/2007 17:32

Sorry to be cheeky and only pop on to quickly see the OP and link, post briefly and then go again, but have not long got in from work and need to make tea but I want to post on these threads daily as I need to build up a routine.

Last night I did the handwashing up at 10.30pm (after reading the thread) which is my short-of-time version of shining the sink. This morning I did shower and do my hair and dress before coming downstairs so I almost did the "get dressed to lace up shoes" bit. I only ever wear slippers or sandals in the house. The "no outdoor shoes beyond the kitchen" and "no slippers outside" rule (I break the latter frequently!) helps to keep the house cleaner than it would be. Sorry for not having read the thread and apologies if I'm missing out on important/sensitive stuff by not having read it. Good luck to all.

Flamesparrow · 25/09/2007 17:44

We'll let you off Simply

The shoes seems to end up a 50/50 split

bilblio · 25/09/2007 18:38

Aha found the thread, thanks daisyandbabybootoo.

I'm having a stuttering start.
Sink is half shiney, I got half way through before DD wanted a feed and my tea was ready.
I only got dressed to my slippers but I did do my hair (a real achievement for me.) I didn't do it before coming downstairs though, I don't think DD would have been too happy if I'd made her wait for milk while I had a shower and got dressed. I hope FLYlady is flexible when a 2 month old is involved.

Going to put DD to bed then I will finish my sink and hopefully tomorrow will be better.

funnypeculiar · 25/09/2007 18:41

Right. Sink now super-shiny.
I don't do the shoes bit either (no shoes inside rule ain't moving for anyone!), but compromised last time I started flylady by doing perfume & proper cleansing instead, so am doing that

MadamePlatypus · 25/09/2007 18:57

Ooh, I think I should join this thread. Step one to a cleaner house - get off computer! See you tomorrow

dalmatianbabe · 25/09/2007 18:58

I can't be doing with the lace up shoes thing!
But my sink is shiny, and the washing up bowl under the sink has REVOLUTIONISED my tatty kitchen.
I do not have a dishwasher (don't ask) so it is a blessing to have somwehere to hide my crud.
I have not taken all her advice to heart as I have a life outside my domestic chores!
