How do you actually handle the washing and drying?!

How do you handle the washing and drying? I have so much with young children and beds / towels etc. I hate having washing hanging everywhere! No space for a tumble dryer and obviously clothes generally get ruined / shrunk by the tumble drier anyway. Obviously if sunny can hang outside. But then some f**ker decides to burn stuff and it all has to come in again! Any tips?!

Can you afford a washer-dryer?

We don't have space for both either, but our machine will wash and dry a king-sized bedding set on a 60 degree wash in a couple of hours. If I just do a 30 degree wash, it's washed and dried in an hour.

Ideal considering we live in Cumbria Grin

@vanillandhoney oooh I’m interested to know which washer dryer you have. Always wanted one but apparently they’re all rubbish Blush

I tumble dry anything that can be and everything else gets hung by a set of French doors and is generally dry very quickly . The tumble dryer is an absolute must have in this house .

It's this one!

We've had it eighteen months so far and it's been a life-saver.

Doing a wash a day would absolutely do my nut in. We take the opposite approach. Until very recently we only washed at weekends. Got a couple of loads on Friday night, all up on airers or on hangers from doorframes, any other washes on Saturday. It's easier now we have a tumble dryer. My youngest is 11 and we started to struggle with the volume more recently so I've started doing a wash or two on a Wednesday. The more often you wash, the more it seems to multiply, I think. Just err a little on the side of eking out PJs and trousers an extra day, and at the end of the week you have significantly less to get through.

We also only wash bedding fortnightly and towels weekly - neither are shared with anyone else. Hand towels are shared and washed more often. I also colour code bedding - each person has sheets similar colour to duvet so all theirs can go in together.

Tumble dryer in shed for bedding, towels, underwear. Retractable washing line outside for nice days. Heated airer & standard airer inside for winter. No damp issues but have windows open & open fireplace.
