Since the lockdown, what's the state of your home?

We're 3 weeks into lockdown and I was hoping our house would be tidier and cleaner, but that hasn't happened so far, although we have done some tiny jobs that needed to be done for a while.

Is your home a) better b)the same c) worse since lockdown ? Us it's b mostly (but our b = untidy and not lovely) with a bit of c some days, so the opposite to what I hoped would happen!

C , definitely c , and feel like Cinderella

juliawilks72 · 16/04/2020 17:58

Definitely worse !!!

grannieali · 16/04/2020 18:44

Glad to read honest and convincing accounts, rather than smug, daft, claims that the house is cleaned every day. The knowledge that nobody will be calling or expecting to be invited in, is quite a relief.

LisaD76 · 16/04/2020 18:50

a) we have cleaned out every room, all the cupboards/drawers cleaned frames, skirting and switches.... OH has painted utility and kitchen and now started on living room

AnnaNimmity · 16/04/2020 18:51

mine's actually ok - probably better than the house normally is. I normally have a cleaner who comes twice a week (and who makes the house look amazing, but it's short lived) but we all clean once a week to a reasonable standard. In between it seems ok too because we are tidying as we go along.

We've done some decorating so it's looking better than before, and I've also tidied the linen cupboard and the spice drawer! (I know, I'm so interesting).

AdoraBell · 16/04/2020 18:54

Better because I’m at home. DH works from home anyway, and DC are hibernating in their rooms. Little things like light switches and door handles no longer look like a health hazard.

Swimminglikeaswan · 16/04/2020 18:58

Mine is spot-on! Am doing all of the painting, cleaning, reorganizing, having a ruthless clear-out just to pass the time. I figure this is the longest time off i am ever likely to have so am on one like a woman posessed Confused

UncleHerbie · 16/04/2020 18:59

We tend to wear top clothes twice, so much less laundry as we both WFH. House is the same - we both clean/keep on top of it. We're not responsible for our 14&17 yo's bedrooms or laundry: they've been trained to do their own, and no one irons

MondeoFan · 16/04/2020 19:00

Mine is better. Garden is looking lush, sorted through a mountain of toys and put the unwanted ones into the attic for boot sale/charity shop later on.
I sorted the kitchen of clutter and the lounge.
Still not 100% but I'd say a close 85% tidy

scrivette · 16/04/2020 19:05

Mine is far worse (and it's normally messy anyway). With 5 of us at home, instead of school/nursery and trying to fit in home schooling and working as well as more washing up due to us eating at home more often there just aren't enough hours in the day to fit everything in.

However strangely I am more on top of the washing, although I think we are creating less.

CatBatCat · 16/04/2020 19:07

Mostly about the same but there's a decluttering pile building up by the front door. I don't want to throw it away but don't like the idea of waiting till the charity shops are open again. I'll put it in the shed to stop tripping over it and hope it doesn't get ruined in the meantime.

breakingbetter · 16/04/2020 19:08

Worse because we're at home. I'm sick to death of clearing the kitchen up from sorting 3 meals a day in it.

yikesanotherbooboo · 16/04/2020 19:11

Super tidy! No teenager as he has been evacuated elsewhere for his safety and DH and I still working. If I have time off there is a limit to available activities so I have been tackling glory holes!

JellyfishandShells · 16/04/2020 19:49

There’s just the two of us so it doesn’t get messed up quickly. Lots of ignorable jobs have finally got done so fiddly bathroom blinds have been done a bit at a time, brass door handles polished, tile grout bleached. Big sort out of under stairs cupboard - charity shop bags and recycling now in bike store awaiting the right time. And my DH has tackled the shed - is now possible to move around in there.

Stressybetty · 16/04/2020 20:06

About the same, I'm WFH so I have a quick tidy round, washing up etc each day and more at weekends. DH doing very little as usual although he does all the cooking. Still have boxes to sort from when we moved in Feb. Thought I would have lots more time but I don't really!

Longpinknails · 16/04/2020 20:24

Better...had a chance to clean more , tidy and clear some things that shouldn’t be there....but we did move into this house 6 days before Christmas. No small children and husband semi-retired. He normally would be out and about but is doing ‘jobs’ Smile

fascinated · 16/04/2020 20:29

@Womenwotlunch our gardeners are still coming, why not?

thunderthighsohwoe · 16/04/2020 20:30

C. All three of us - DP, 16mo DD and I - are normally out of the house all day.

I suspect my in laws’ house is infinitely tidier though, without a toddler spending four days a week destroying it.

Notenoughchocolateomg · 16/04/2020 20:47

A , mine is cleaner and more tidy so far! Though we had 2 weeks off for Easter so now I'm back to homeschooling it may lessen.

browneyes77 · 16/04/2020 21:55

Well, I had planned to do some spring cleaning whilst I had more time and really give my flat a good old clear out.

That still hasn’t happened yet. I’m saving it for a rainy day and we haven’t had many of those the last few weeks Grin

If anything I’ve probably got lazier, because I know nobody will be visiting my home to see how tidy/messy it is, so I’m kind of like “fuck it” GrinGrin

Mumista · 17/04/2020 11:43

worse!

drspouse · 17/04/2020 11:53

The garden is better and the loo is clean because we attack it every time we go past but the play room, front room and dining room are absolute tips and we can't get to the floor to clean it.
DH is good at cleaning but any tidying starts with him picking up one thing and saying "I don't know where this goes" and stopping.Hmm

beachbreeze · 17/04/2020 12:35

A bit tidier than usual. Although I'm working from home the reduction in travel time etc has meant that I have a bit more time to do things, albeit quickly as the kids are about too obviously. I've also sorted out some cupboards etc that I had meant to do for a while when the children have been with their dads.

Ifeel1000yearsold · 17/04/2020 12:39

Single parent. Two teens and a baby. Got a few sorting/clearing jobs done but the crumbs are insane and feels like I am constantly hoovering.

beachbreeze · 17/04/2020 12:43

I'm also hoovering all the time! Toddler throws food everywhere... is he even a toddler now?! Turned three recently.
