Unsavoury smell in the bedroom

Grandadwasthatyou · 03/04/2020 12:32

Not a nice topic I know but had noticed my 5 year old ds's bedroom was becoming smellier and smellier to the point when my eyes were watering when I went in.
Subsequently I have had to lift all the carpet and underlay which has been no mean feat on my own. Surprise, surprise, a large wet patch behind one of his chest of drawers. He has SEN so I suspect he has been going to the toilet in his room rather than be bothered to go to the toilet.

Anyway the point of my thread is how on earth do I get rid of the smell, which is like men's public toilets on a Saturday night?

I have scrubbed the area with boiling water and washing up liquid, followed by a bleach spray but I can still smell it. It's a chipboard flooring rather than floorboards.
The whole house is starting to smell of it now. Help?

It may have permeated the chip board, underlay and carpet.
You might have to replace them.
Have you got your DS to stop his peeing in his room?

In meantime, try and buy carpet cleaner formulated for pet accidents. The enzymes in the cleaners work the same on animal and human pee.

You could try biological washing powder if you have any in? Sprinkle over and work in, leave and when dry hoover.

The pet enzyme stuff works well.

Bleach is not great for urine smells, any bicarbonate soda? That is great for smells.

We used the pet stuff when an elderly realtives catheter bag leaked. Be prepared for it to change the texture of the carpet and for a while the smell of the pet spray was awful. It did go and we stuck a rug over the offending patch on the carpet.
