Can someone help me - I am planning to decorate DSs (17 months) bedroom...

DS is currently still in with me but I think I should start work on his bedroom now-ish as it'll take me a good while to complete it! It is currently in it's baby state - white wallpaper with little blue flowers and white laminate flooring (he didn't even spend an hour in total in it though!) but it needs to be stripped because 1) the flowers really are too babyish and the tumble drier being in their means some bits have pealed anyway and 2) DH layed the laminate flooring (need I say more??!)
I am having trouble deciding how to do it though, I was going to buy a good pine wardrobe and chest of drawers and paint them white (I am obsessed with white furniture!) and have blue and white striped wallpaper (think Laura Ashley type thing) but then I am wondering if I am thinking too much how I would like it rather than DS... I have seen a few 'all out' kids ranges (Thomas the tank engine etc.) and wonder if I should really make it a real toddler bedroom... and risk him going off whatever I do to it (I was just going to have say a few planes from the ceiling, paintings of trains etc.). Sorry if I am rambling but I am really unsure of what to do...
Thankyou so mch if you can help me! x

wow, I actually love the clowns (and I am usually scared of them!) I think ill do that on the sticky out bit of wall, pick one colour from the border for the rest of the walls, keep the furniture pine coloured... thanks so much for showing me those!

Pedlars have some nice stickers (personally I really want the space invaders ones)

Am desperate to redecorate dd's room having seen all this. But can't afford, or justify, it at the mo

On the furniture front we bought a tallboy for dd's clothes. Like this. It is only about 5' 5" high so she will be able to reach to put her clothes away in a few years [wishful thinking emoticon] and it has storage/display space on the top.

am thinking I could easily paint that enchanted tree freehand and the fairies

SoupDragon · 09/09/2007 20:42

Laminate flooring because you can mop sick off it. You have to scrub carpet and it gets down the cracks in floorboards...

SoupDragon · 09/09/2007 20:46

I have just painted BabyDragon's room in lilac and magnolia. Plain.

I then painted 3 canvasses in lilac and painted a shooting star across them to put on the large magnolia wall and I have (somewhere, heaven knows where) 4 little angel wings made of feathers which I plan to put on small lilac painted canvasses with a pearlescent glaze over (the canveas, not the wings ) for one of the lilac walls. I will be adding lilac/purple/silver accessories and not a single Disney princess in sight. Children' don't need tacky character filled rooms, they'll fill them with tacky character toys soon enough .

SoupDragon · 09/09/2007 20:46

It already had mop-clean sick proof laminate flooring

I like the baby monkey/jungle one here, was thinking about it for DS but it's a bit expensive!

The fish ones are really cool too!

Glad you've got some ideas Quootiepie.

At the risk of being thrown to the wolves for being so naff I feel compelled to share pictures of DD1s room. I painted it last year when I was pregnant and we knew she'd be moving bedrooms.

Check my profile pictures....Lots of tacky characters everywhere you look and we all love it! Several of her friends have asked their parents for similar bedrooms which hasnt made me popular though!

NB I only did murals on 2 walls. The curtains and 2 walls are yellow and if we move I will paint these 2 walls white....

I've just used this company Little Rotpots to get the Friendship Faries for dds bedroom in our new house. They do tractor stickers for boys and cute bunting and letters as well.

Prompt delivery.

I will let you know how well they perform when I actually put them up in DDs bedroom.
