How do I clean a large shaggy rug in the winter

Recently bought a large shaggy rug. My kittens decided to do a few wees on it. It smells bad. How do I clean and dry it in the winter. Thanks

Spot clean it and use one of those pet urine sprays or white vinegar on it.

I wash rugs in the washing machine and line dry them but they are not shaggy and it's not the right time of year.

Washing machine, dry over the bannister or a door, and brush through with a cat brush.
I have a kitten and a shaggy rug too...
