Pepper Mill recommendations please

My much loved and used mill died after twenty years of faultless service a couple of years ago. Bought a new mill in Next, it's broken already so don't want to shop there. I realise this is a deeply unsexy thread but does anyone have a reliable mill they could recommend?

I use an Ikea one for salt and it is brilliant - it's the ribbed white one. Also comes in navy which I wish I'd gotten for pepper but instead, after a few false starts I got one in TK Maxx which has been great for the past 8 or so years, it's clear perspex and isn't the prettiest but a nice size and has the name Zassenhaus on the grinder. Hope that helps.

The Le Crueset ones are lovely and grind the salt and pepper super fine.. They are pricy but not ridiculously so.

I bought a Lakeland pepper mill. Wooden one with a metal grinding handle on the top. Very efficient-we love ground pepper. Cost about £30. I feel it should last a long time as it is from Lakeland.

Thanks all. For some reason I cannot fathom, I've taken against the clear ones. Illogical but there it is. Will give Lakeland a try as I've loved everything I've bought from there. I have Le Crueset grinders/ They work brilliantly.
Not cheap, but I got them from an outlet place.

Peugeot mills are superb. Cole and Mason are also good.

Keep us posted. I am sick of replacing pepper mills that break after a short time!!

Le Creuset. You can adjust the knob to how coarse or fine you wish your pepper.

We've got a Cole & Mason that sits with the grinder opening at the top - means no spillage when not in use. No idea why the aren't all like that. And it works well.

Another vote for Peugeot. Mine are decades old.

I recently went through this, after I discovered our plastic one had been grinding plastic onto our food for sometime!!!

I had no idea how many types, brands and prices of grinders there were! After weeks of research, we went for a Peugeot brand too. I don't recommend an electric type- which need batteries and often fail within a year. Go for an actual hand grinding type. We had a minor issue with the salt grinder, but peugeot replaced it asap. We've had the salt and pepper grinder for 6mths now without further issues.

cortex10 I love the sound of the top mill end - I have been using an IKEA plastic storage tub to keep the pepper mill, olive oil etc by the cooker but it's totally covered in pepper daily.

The peugeot one I instantly gravitated to was £190!

Another vote for le creuset. Faffed about with shit ones for years. Got L.C on offer last year and wouldn't use anything else now. They look lovely and grind beautifully. Also had a problem with one where some coating came off and they just sent a new one straight away. Well worth the investment.

I've spent a fortune on pepper mills over the years. My last one disappeared which is strange, along with my nice wine opener...

Anyway, I picked up a Cole and Mason set, they're great. I think they have a lifetime guarantee on the grinding mechanism.
