Mopping frontroom with same mop as downstairs loo

Help an I being paranoid
Asked dh to mop kitchen floor yesterday ( new mop and bucket ) washed with zoflora and hot water
Later on I refilled mop bucket and decided to lightly mop frontroom and floor as have lvt , just found out today after doing kitchen dh also mopped downstairs loo just lightly as have real wood in there
I have then used it to mop frontroom unknowingly - new water and disenfectant but mop was still wet from clean before
Have I risked contaminating the frontroom , I have just tan steam cleaner over it (now as just found out what he had done ( day after ) to be sure or would changing water and using more disenfectant at least keep germs at bay

Do you prep food on the floor? Or have a crawling infant? If not I'd say forget about it.

Apolloanddaphne · 01/01/2020 16:04

Most people just use the same mop/bucket/water to clean all the floors including the toilet floor. It will be fine and your front room won't be contaminated at all.

NannyR · 01/01/2020 16:05

I use the same mop in my bathroom and kitchen and I don't use bleach or disinfectent. Never really thought it could be a problem.

dementedpixie · 01/01/2020 16:05

It wouldn't have crossed my mind to be an issue tbh. You have used disinfectant that kills germs

NoSquirrels · 01/01/2020 16:05

Gently, OP, I think you are indeed easily anxious and a little bit paranoid. Unless someone in your house has been very ill in the downstairs loo recently, mopping the floor in there and then mopping another room with new water and disinfectant is totally normal mopping procedure.

Lllot5 · 01/01/2020 16:06

I use the same mop for bathroom and kitchen. But I wash the bucket and mop out and change the water.

Twickerhun · 01/01/2020 16:06

You'll be fine.

fortifiedwithtea · 01/01/2020 16:11

OP thank you for posting this question because it’s something I have worried about too.

BorissGiantJohnson · 01/01/2020 16:22

Jesus Christ OP, get a bloody grip!

Easilyanxious · 01/01/2020 16:23

I don’t usually use mop and buckets very often , normally use steam cleaner which I do frontroom kitchen with then the bathroom last . then throw in washing machine and dry to re use later , so never doing bathroom first . I have a dog who probably walks all stuff around house anyway . No one has been ill in downstairs loo and floor was pretty clean in there as only wiped out with disinfectant wipes couple days ago. Just remembered why I stopped using mop and bucket as no wheee to dry mop this time of year and spend as much time cleaning mops off as do the floor , so steam cleaner is def quicker and easier. Plus only I ever use it so I know it’s done ok. As you can tell have a real phobia of germs in certain scenarios

Well, you out disinfectant in the water so if it disinfects then surely it won't matter?

user32564567 · 01/01/2020 16:27

Do you make a habit of licking your floors?

Easilyanxious · 01/01/2020 16:29

With my ocd and anxiety I struggle sometimes with what is a genuine concern and what is me being over the top .

So your DH washed the kitchen floor and bathroom floor with water with disinfectant. You then changed the water, added more disinfectant and washed the front room floor. You then steamcleaned the front room floor.

OP, I am a scientist, and while your regime may not have been suitable for cleaning a clean room for manufacturing biopharmaceuticals, for a house your regime is more than adequate. Soap is sufficient for all domestic cleaning purposes and is more efficient than excessive use of disinfectant.

PatricksRum · 01/01/2020 18:11

OP steam clean the front room. If you need to mop bathroom and another room have a spare mop head. I only ever mop bathrooms. Other rooms are done with a bissell.

poppinpink · 01/01/2020 18:12

I usually do toilets last..

Easilyanxious · 01/01/2020 20:23

Hi I only steam cleaned a day later when I found out he also used mop for downstairs loo after doing kitchen. I came in a little after he had done and just thought I would quickly go over frontroom and hallway with mop so used new water and bit zoflora and mopped. Today when he mentioned he briefly went over toilet floor with mop is when I panicked and all I could think to do was get steam cleaner out and steam kitchen floor followed by frontroom .

Hi OP
Are you saying that the living room floor was used freely in between the steam mopping but after the normal mopping?

lboogy · 02/01/2020 05:03

You're lucky your DH knows what a mop is. Cries in jealousy 😢
In answer, you've not decontaminated anything. Zarglorp is a disinfectant anyway so the risks of transferring germs is almost negligible

DryHeave · 02/01/2020 05:12

Zarglorp Grin

Woeisme99 · 02/01/2020 05:13

Off point slightly but I don't think you're meant to steam LVT, it fucks up the joints / glue, so go easy with it.

Easilyanxious · 02/01/2020 09:05

Patrickrum , yes the frontroom was used freely in between. I never realised what had happened until a day later , woesme 99 - never knew about not using steam cleaner on lvt. Will have to find out what I can use on it then,

I don’t understand people who are happy to have a dog in their home but then stress about the water and mop Confused surely you are going to get far more germs etc from a dog than a bit of cross contamination between bathroom and kitchen floors. Hmm.

Never even considered using separate water for mopping different floors, but my standards are petty low (but no animals in the house).

theSnuffster · 02/01/2020 09:24

I clean the bathroom floors by hand, rather than have two different mops. Not that there's a risk of someone using the wrong mop because nobody else would ever think to clean the floors 🙄 I wouldn't worry about this sort of thing usually, but DS still pees on the floor.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 02/01/2020 09:24

Disinfectant disinfects...

Your toilet floor won't even be any dirtier than your living room floor unless DH doesn't know how to piss property.
