Help an I being paranoid
Asked dh to mop kitchen floor yesterday ( new mop and bucket ) washed with zoflora and hot water
Later on I refilled mop bucket and decided to lightly mop frontroom and floor as have lvt , just found out today after doing kitchen dh also mopped downstairs loo just lightly as have real wood in there
I have then used it to mop frontroom unknowingly - new water and disenfectant but mop was still wet from clean before
Have I risked contaminating the frontroom , I have just tan steam cleaner over it (now as just found out what he had done ( day after ) to be sure or would changing water and using more disenfectant at least keep germs at bay

I have one mop. It hangs on a hook outside between it's occasional use. I've just realised it must have been darked on. I feel faint.

Her0utdoors · 02/01/2020 19:04

I've neer had a cleaner with 2 mops, or who has expected me to provide two mops....

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 02/01/2020 19:05

The whole point of cross infection control is to minimise cross infection by taking all reasonable steps you can to do so. Humans have to walk from room to room - that cannot be changed (although easy steps like taking slippers off before going into the bathroom helps) Most humans can afford to buy two mops to minimise cross contamination risk.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 02/01/2020 19:05

Well you can't have very good cleaners then

lilgreen · 02/01/2020 19:06

So, you take your slippers off and walk into the bathroom in socks? Then said sock goes back in the slipper. What is the point?????

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 02/01/2020 19:09

We have a cleaner at home and different cleaners to clean the practices - none of these cleaners have ever used the same mop for every room. Your cleaner must be the exception that proves the rule

Good hygiene and infection control is really just based on verifiable science - worrying about your mop being darked on (whatever that means sounds vaguely racist) is neither here not there. If you are happy to increase the risk or cross infection for the sake of £5, feel free to do so. There is a significant amount of the population who chose not to

The point is that your slipper which is being worn around the house has not been in the bathroom

Happily, I've always missed the apocraphyl threads where whole families shared the same toothbrush and don't change their sheets for 6 months whilst sneering at anyone who might have higher hygiene standards. Feel like I have stumbled on one now! Feel free to do what you want. But accept that others don't find it particularly hygienic and no amount of sneering is going to change that

Hi
Yes I am trying to seek help for my ocd and anxiety ( not so easy where I live) and it is very out of control at the moment , this is probably the smallest thing I have to worry about
We don’t have bathroom slippers so generally do walk around bathroom and then rest of house and I must admit I’ve never thought of this . Obviously keep the bathroom floor clean and would wipe up spills etc immediately at all times .
I have re washed floors and from now on won’t use a steam cleaner on the lvt floor as have learnt from this thread not to
Actually had a cleaning company around today to quote for full deep clean ( not due to floors ) but to really try and get on top of my house and hoping this will help ease some of my worries as will be able to keep right on top of everything then .
Thank you for all your help and will be off to purchase more mop heads for future cleaning . Whilst I contemplate cost of full deep
Clean

Why on earth is anyone talking about cross infection control in the context of a normal family house? Have you got someone immunocompromised living with you? Are you recovering from a norovirus outbreak? If not, this just sounds ridiculous.

Exposure to reasonable quantities of bacteria, viruses etc is normal and helps develop the immune system and is preventive against autoimmune diseases, not to mention that the disinfectant chemicals you use may well be worse for you than the germs you are trying to get rid of.

Sure, stay reasonably clean, and follow basic common sense (make sure everyone washes their hands after using the loo, don't drip raw chicken over everything etc) but trying to make your home as sterile as an operating theatre is just crazy and quite possibly counterproductive.

Easilyanxious · 02/01/2020 19:22

Gobbolinothewitchscat You say you have different cleaners for home and practices , Do you mean in a drs practice

So the sick that has been in the bathroom has contact with your skin, what then, bleaching before bed? GrinConfused

lilgreen · 02/01/2020 19:38

Sock

lilgreen · 02/01/2020 19:39

Op I realise you have a condition and this is not directed towards you- I think you need to seek help, not from a cleaner, but to help you with this issue.

PatricksRum · 02/01/2020 19:46

@Easilyanxious A deep clean may be a good idea. Smile
I've had a few and do feel better after. Just be wary of them not cleaning how you want. Ie different mop heads. I always stay whilst they clean to assist with this.
Or you could get someone to organise your house which may be better.
Good luck with either.

lilgreen · 02/01/2020 19:49

You are not helping the OP at all.

PatricksRum · 02/01/2020 19:54

I suffer the same and I'm helping how I would be best helped.
@lilgreen
It's not for you to say what or what isn't helping the OP although I would suggest your comments are less than helpful

lilgreen · 02/01/2020 19:56

She doesn’t need a cleaner house. You are adding to her anxiety by making her feel like she needs to do more.

HuggedTrees · 02/01/2020 19:57

We were told not to use a steam cleaner with LVT as it would melt the glue

PatricksRum · 02/01/2020 19:58

@lilgreen presumably you don't know the OP, don't have OCD nor know her triggers.

So the sick that has been in the bathroom has contact with your skin, what then, bleaching before bed?

And this is helpful to whom? Jeering at one's cleaning rituals

lilgreen · 02/01/2020 20:04

I was responding to a pp, not you, hence my message to the op.

PatricksRum · 02/01/2020 20:06

I didn't ask for clarification. I asked whom your post is helping. Care to answer? @lilgreen

lilgreen · 02/01/2020 20:07

Yes ok, it wasn’t meant to be helpful.

lilgreen · 02/01/2020 20:08

It was meant to point out the ridiculous suggestion made by a pp.

PatricksRum · 02/01/2020 20:11

Ok so perhaps reflect on your own posts before criticising someone with the same disability as OP trying to help. @lilgreen

Easilyanxious · 02/01/2020 20:13

lol green yes I am seeking help for my ocd as well and trying to get help with seeking the happy medium between clean and sensible and being over the top
