Which vacuum cleaner would you recommend?

Hi everyone!

We're making plans to research, test and review a new round of vacuum cleaners (corded and cordless), so we'd love to hear which products you'd recommend.

If you've used (and loved!) a particular product recently, then please do tell us about it. This will help us to create a shortlist of vacuum cleaners to put to the test.

Also, if you have any tips on what we should be looking for in a vacuum cleaner then please do share your comments on this thread - we'll then add your tips and advice to our updated buyer's guide.

Thank you!

Henry!!
Best all rounder. Great for carpets, tiled and wooden floors. Can reach to do the entire staircase.

Such a helpful thread! I have a Miele which is ancient- it's been great, but is slowly falling apart, and I really want a cordless.
Was going to go with dyson, but now pondering shark.

Cordless shark duo

Love it! Much better than dyson cordless imo.

Favourite corded is our ancient Miele (12 years old and counting)

Shark lift away is brilliant. I’ve had different dysons, Henry and other cheaper ones. The shark is great. The only complaint I have is that it falls over occasionally.

Miele
Had a dyson worked for about 10 minutes broke /repaired /broke shit build quality and now I know more about Mr Dyson I wouldn’t buy another on principal.

Snog about 8 months or so. Some time early this year. When you turn the brushes on, it has a light which comes on, and it almost self powers itself round, so it requires minimal effort.

Henry all the way - worth getting the extra with the aero brush

I didn't get on with a Henry, but my mum has him and happy with him. I have a corded (roller ball) and cordless Dyson, really like the cordless version.

I think Henry doesn’t have any fancy cordless, bagless type features and is quite large and heavy so you need room to store, but it does have a very long cord which can easily be adjusted and also a very large bag so you are not endlessly emptying an although it is heavy it is easy to pull along. It is a bit cumbersome to get up stairs, but has long enough attachments that you can hoover up from the bottom (or down from the top). Most crucially it is very reliable and lasts for years - which is an important factor because no one wants to be shelling out on a new hoover every few years.

I'm another Shark fan. I bought ours after reading previous MN threads.

Much better and lighter than our old dyson.

Miele

Posted too soon, absolutely love it, never loses suction, had it for years. Before this, a decade ago, had an ancient Bosch, was fab, but not as good as the Miele. Not even sure Bosch make vacuums anymore

GTech - expensive but good, handheld has too short a life span
Vax cordless- ok on hard floors, useless on carpet
Henry/James - brilliant!
Vax corded - pretty good!

Oh that's the GTech K9 (older model) new model is too fragile and has common fault with shaft failure

Miele cats and dogs is excellent, ours has been going 10 years and all the cleaners we've had have rated it highly compared to others they use.

Also a Dyson handheld.

I've just bought the G tech set. It's brilliant and light. The stairs are a doddle with the small handheld. I've also kept my sebo as I just can't bear to part with it yet .

henry.... sucks anything up, the henrietta doesnt have a easily seriveable head, for unblocking, the normal henry does. Dyson vacs are a gimmick , an posh bird accessory in fact, usless. Batteries die too quick and forever emptying it. Henry , powerful , cheap and serviceable. throw it about , simple design, doesnt go wrong.

£100 , go to france for the day with the change from a Dyson. Stock up on wine ! Always go for no gimmicks, simple design that works, sensors and all that jargon is sales patter fodder, bluetooth connectivity so you can see your vac when your in bed or on holiday.....etc etc lose it. you pay for that rubbish , you never use it.
